@donovanyoung1220 Жыл бұрын
the food shortages were surprisingly not as bad during the 2nd world war for Germany, but the thing about German rations where they based their idea on field kitchens and homemade short-term rations. I think the reason you may be picking up leather scents in those items is because most Germans soldiers used leather webbing, cartridge boxes, and other storage gear while the allies used cotton and synthetics for their gear. The chocolate and cigs would pick up the leather tannin and natural odor of the materials if they were stored in them for a period of time. I think Band of Brothers (book) mentioned that Earl McClung could "smell" the presence of Germans, esp. in damp weather. It was all the leather accoutrements the Germans donned or sported.

This brand of cigarettes actually existed until 2016, it was discontinued due to its primary customers, WW2 veterans either passing away or Quitting smoking. It was never popular among the youths of Germany due to it being Turkish tobacco, (American Tobacco is preferred in Germany) These cigarettes were popular in WW2 due to Turkish tobacco being all they could acquire. I've actually read about Wehrmacht soldiers finding a French warehouse full of Cigarettes and that they rationed out the American cigarettes to Officers, while the standard infantry man would have to smoke these.

The video is a bit older, but I just saw it now by coincidence. I live in Dresden. The building of the former Delta cigarette factory stood until 1990, but was then demolished. Today, there is an office complex on the site. Today there is only the F6 cigarette factory in Dresden, a daughter of Philip Morris. They almost only produce tobacco for home-turning. On the topic Scho-ka-kola: I tried both versions today (Dark and milk). Other today's chocolates, I find by far tastier. :-) Did you also try the current chocolate? What is the difference to the historical version? Visually has changed little. No logo in the middle. Thanks and bye.

This is where your those cigarettes were made. The factory has a fairly interesting history and design. It was originally built by Jewish entrepreneur Hugo Zietz between 1907 and 09. He sold it 15 years later. Not sure if growing Nazi movement had anything to do with that. It stopped manufacturing cigarettes in 1953. Today its an office building. www.yenidze.eu/en/yenidze/

That German chocolate is still made today, in bars, and in tins. I was given a tin as a gift a few years back, and I can confirm that the chocolate was delicious. If it was as good 70 odd years ago, as it is today, then it would have been a great morale boost to the troops in the field.

Watched this video a few weeks ago and ordered some of these. Two days later I had a few tins and put them in the truck console for longer drives. Took my girlfriend shopping and before I was able to say, "Don't eat that..." she had scarfed down three wedges. I spent the next two hours chasing her around a big box store as she zoomed up and down the aisles. These are no joke energy boosters but the crash is significant too. Fell asleep as soon as we started the trip home. Fun times!

9:00- when the 300mg of caffeine kicks in. I agree on the weirdness of the old German stuff. I'm a coin collector, and I've a few prewar and wartime German marks I've found here and there. The wartime ones with the swastika give a bit of a chill. I keep them simply because of demand- I figure I have them as a collector piece. Someone else might want them for the ideology.
