I have a question regarding the 1944 wheat penny that I found in my change collection. it has multiple small square shaped holes punched in it including on the rim. it is not fully round as it looks like it was formed correctly. the back also has a few of the squares but not as deep. i have seen a ton of error coins but have never seen anything look like this one. The back is also full of errors or missing material. most of the punch marks on the front are through the president and above through In God we trust right on to the rim any idea's as to what this is?

It wasn't until 1943 or 44 that they needed to Copper for ammunition and they began making the pennies out of steel or zinc the zinc penny is only worth a couple of bucks to steel penny and uncirculated condition is worth over $1000000.

First thing you need to do is put a magnet to it if it is Steel the magnet will pick it up that Penny could be worth a fortune if it's copper it's practically worthless check make sure whether it is steel or not. Also you can find a book on coin rare coin and old coin values a b Dalton Bookseller for about 20 bucks if you have a million dollar coin and you buy a $20 book I think you're coming out way ahead on that deal. Do not take it to a coin dealer to have it appraised or estimated. A coin dealer will lie to you I repeat they will lie to you about the value so that they may acquire such a rare coin
