1946 Martin "60" Outboard Motor

7.2 HP Twin Cyl.. Barrel running before going in Lake.

@706jim1 All literature I've seen for this motor rates it at 7.2 hp.The Martin "75" is a 7.5 hp motor.The Martin 60 sits to low in the water to make a boat plane out.Seems to work better when to adjust the trim knob and have more weight in the front of the boat.

I used to have one of these. I don't know about the 7.2hp rating though. It wouldn't plane the lightest 14' aluminum you ever saw while an Evinrude 5 1/2 would.

I have the exact same motor I bought the other day .it surges at idle then dies will start back up but then does the same thing .can anyone please help me .

carburetor I'm guessing, or an air leak somewhere else, but I'd start w/ the carb. Go to martinoutboards website and buy a gasket kit. Take a part the carb, clean it, install the gasket kit, and reinstall and adjust as needed. It'll run good, just do what you have to for the carb. If you've never cleaned or rebuilt a carb, search it on youtube and you'll figure it out, it's really not that hard as long as you keep track of all the parts and take your time. Good luck.
