I bought a Martin 40 for my canoe back in the 1970s. It still runs great and starts right up. I have since bought several Martin's. They had some very innovative features. Somewhere I read they were working on a forward, neutral, reverse gearcase when they went out of business. Too bad they didn't stick around.

Take at look at the movie by Alfred Hitchcock called The Birds. Tippi Hedren uses this motor when she visits Mitch. So cool!

I’m pretty impressed with the engine. Martin made a big deal about having their HP rated at the prop. I’d say it’s comparable to most 7.5 hp motors

@@tylerott9269 I would agree. My 5hp Does not move like that.

In 1973, the next door neighbour gave me one of these. I was surprised when I saw it was made by a Pressure Cooker Compnay

What’s the fuel ratio on that? I just bought one at a garage sale and got it running?

Do you remember who sells the water pump parts or know a supplier? I picked up 3 of these by trading ONE little Mighty Mite 1.5 HP. Nice running motor Tyler!

martinoutboards.com I met the guy at his booth and bought the parts in person at tomahawk. Really all you need is a gas tank seal, a new water pump “wobbler” and a new water pump seal. You should be able to cut your own gasket for the carb and just clean the points.

@@tylerott9269 very good! Yes, I have a "40" also I paid $50 for and I got it running without spending a dime. Completely cleaned and reassembled the carburetor, cleaned up the points and that's all it took. It's amazing how smoothly it idles! Its pumping water very good too. Thanks for your reply

I forgot to mention, the guy even had the original owners manual from 1949 with it too, and that's always nice to have
