Good morning Mark. I am so jealous. This is an engine I have always to own but never found. What a fantastic little runner. If ever you get to find an Amco 35 (the one with the brown cylinder head) count your fingers after, it was a killer. Great find.

Hi Terry, thanks for the comment, pleased you enjoyed seeing it run, I am thinking of building a Tomboy for it. I do have the Amco 35 which I will be posting a video of soon, I will keep my glove on! Hahaha😜

I don't think there ever was a 3.5 brown head. I think the original black heads faded to brownish (I have a couple). And various people have given them a bad reputation over the years. They start easily and run well if you're careful.

Time does cloud one's memory. Back in the 60s I was a member of the Wolston mac that was a control line only club. One of our members had an Amco 35 that was a real finger slicer. I was sure it was a brown cylinder head, and yes I have also seen black head one's.

@@terryblackman6217 Mine looks a bit brownish now, but it was black when it was new!

How to start a diesel. From a master no longer with us. Set needle 11/2 to 2 turns, not critical. Here's the secret. Back off compression. Prime with a squirt through the exhaust, couple of flicks to blow the excess out. Grab hold of the prop with one hand and turn over while increasing compression, when you feel a click you've reached the correct compression setting, engine will now start and you can set the needle valve and fine tune compression. Proof of this is how easy you restarted after finding the compression setting.

Mark, I don't know whether it's appropriate to point out the various "defects"... If not, excuse me! The top of the cylinder head and the top of the needle thimble should have nice little numbers around their peripheries, to provide setting references. It looks like these have been removed(?), or maybe the head is repro. Shame. The spinner nut might be from a Mk II (not sure), but it's nothing like a Mk I spinner. As you say, the intake system has been messed with quite a lot. Finally, Thank you, 'cos I did actually learn something from your commentary that I wasn't aware of, so Thanks!!! PS: You imply that the Mk II was made in greater numbers than the Mk I. I think the opposite is true, there were far more Mk Is than Mk IIs.

@@MarkRobinson555 The other one that springs to mind is Vic Smeed's "Tomboy". Our club (SBMAC) runs competitions for these types - RC Assist.
