My dad had an 7.5 Elgin back in 60's and he would drop it into the lake I would have to dive in to attach a rope to it drag ot out. It was a great little motor.

Just watched this video 2 years after you put it out, so you probably won't notice the comment. There may be a a screen filter in the output side of the gas tank that is gummed up. This motor reminds me of my grandfather's 1939 Johnson Seahorse. I had the fuel tank screen problem along with a carburetor that was hard to keep sealed. Great video!

Thanks for the comment! I can't remember if I took all the fuel lines off that tank or not. I discovered that one of the bolts (or was it a stud?) holding the carb down had snapped, so it was running much leaner than it should. I do love small outboards of that era, it's too bad that the impellers are hard to come by now.

These are nice engines to work on. Most times a guy can get them running again! I liked your video on fitting different coils to get spark. Great job

Love the smell of two stroke engines. I have one of these still unopened in the shipping box from five years ago. I should take it out and see if I can make it run. Thanks for the inspiration.

I wish my wife agreed with you, she hates the 2 stroke smell around the house! Good luck with yours!

Excellent video Bennett! 🙂 That vintage engine would be perfect for the Argo! 😀 I'm happy that it runs my friend. Great job with the parts swapping. Take care 🔧

Thanks Zane, that's the plan! The Argo has been getting a lot of work recently, it will be an all new machine soon :D

Thanks Paul! I'm a sucker for the look of the 40's-50's era outboards, im glad I decided to take one more swing at this one! It very nearly went to the curb

Good job. I have 2 or 4 or 6 of these things? Maybe? I don't know. I've done more scetchy coil jobs so your ok. I am surprsed that you had a bad one though. That style are pritty harty. I had the boat out once and felt the water coming out of that pipe back there and got my wet hand too close to the spark plug. Yikes. I am glad that you saved it.

Thanks J D, I've always liked tinkering on old outboards. 50's and 60's outboards especially just have such a unique look to them. It's almost the time of the year here whereby I can take it out to a lake for some real use.

Glad to hear it! This is the exact one I bought, but you can also just take the product number off it and find a few others on amazon. Teleflex Marine 18-5181 Ignition Coil a.co/d/c7Ki4PV

Hello. I have the same engine. I got it running with it all the way on fast. Do you know the adjustment settings on the carb?
@RustRehab2 жыл бұрын
I don't remember exactly how I ended up setting mine, but I do know that I after filming I found a large vacuum leak because of a stray bit of metal that stopped the carb from seating properly. No idea how that got in there, but it was causing one hell of a lean condition. I do seem to remember googling the starting adjustments for that motor though and finding some good info, that's probably your best bet. Good luck!

what spark plugs did you use?
@RustRehab2 жыл бұрын
NGK BM4A is what I have in there right now, but I *think* that a champion J11C is the recommended plug.

how did you get the gasr tank off
@RustRehab3 жыл бұрын
If memory serves, there are 4 (or 6?) bolts that are upside down that hold it on, plus the fuel line. You have to look up at it from underneath to see the bolts
