Really appreciate your vids. Not all of us can afford high dollar rebuilds or mods, but enjoy diy projects our old vehicles. I have a 26 Model TT, one ton truck, and loved your Model A and AA vids. Thanks

Thank you for this video Sir. I noticed that your '48 has Knee action shock absorbers. Mine has tubes. I thought all Fords switched over to tubes in '48. Interesting.

You're very observant George. '48 was the last year for those knee action shocks. Maybe yours was converted. Thanks for watching and your comment.

Ford made several changes in the 47 & 48 models during production. Some early, some later. Many are explained in The Early Ford V-8 Club of America book "41-48 Ford Book

Great video -- only wish you had also replaced the tie rod ends at the same time. I would maybe suspect also a little play there if king pins were bad.

Thanks for the comment James. Good suggestion. The previous owner had already replaced the tie rod ends.

@@FlatheadTerry Selfish question on my part. About to replace king pins AND tie rod ends on my "47 -- just looking for that COMPLETE instruction video. But I think I'll manage, anyway. Your video was great and very clear.

Nice vid. They don’t usually come out that easily.

Agreed! I had a lot of fun replacing them on my 1930 Model Ford.

The nut for the retaining pin also acts as your steering stop. Why did you replace it with a regular nut and lock washer?
@FlatheadTerry Жыл бұрын
That's a great question! Good catch. The new King Pin kit came with the new nut and washer so I assumed that would replace it original one. Wrong! I kept the original and I put them back on. Big thanks!

Following your video I finally pulled both spindles and will have new bushings installed. Your video didn't really cover the passenger side alot. That spindle also had the drag link attached. After a bit of hammering with a pry bar I got it loose, but couldn't remove it as there was not enough clearance under the frame. A little head scratching and I realized that I could detach it once the king pin had been removed and the spindle was loose. Question -- There were no spacers on the old king pins when uninstalled. Did you put in a spacer with the new king pin, and if so, where was it located on the pin? Thanks.

Hey James, thanks for the comment. I did not install spacers.
