Thanks for showing this! I was looking at Zillow today and saw one of these still installed in a near mint time capsule house in Tucson. I looked up the owner and she died at 102. Built in 1950 it is/was an upscale custom house (for the time). It didn’t have the sink section, just the dishwasher. It was built into wood cabinetry, but the lid, knob, and that vent (?) were all the same. 2040 Waverly St, Tucson AZ

I love the top popping at the end. My family's first dishwasher was a beautiful stainless steel fronted model in a mid-century home we rented in Indianapolis. This was 1968. An uncle's dishwasher supposedly popped open when done, so we all sat around watching the first "run". Of course, nothing happened. So now, whenever I'm sitting with a bunch of people staring at something that's just not going to get exciting, I say, "Picture it: 1968, when we got our first dishwasher..." LOL

This is one of the first commercially available production dishwashers. It was installed in our kitchen around 1958 I was about 10 years old.

My mom and dad had one just like that, in a house they bought not quite 60 years ago.

Hi Brent. Thanks for the comments. It is a beautiful machine, especially inside the dishwasher - the porcelain tub and entire sink top is just in such mint shape. She purrs like a kitten. And 'Yes' this machine is going to be installed in my kitchen and will supplement my Double Drawer Fisher Paykel dishwasher. I'd like to use if for all of my daily dishes. And I plan to baby it, and give it an extra cleaning probably once a week to keep it in mint condition.

What kind of detergent would you use in this? Or just water? I would LOVE something like this the sink and everything is so sleek and beautiful.

I wonder why the wash cycle was so short. It takes about an hour in my dishwasher.

+scooman That's because to get these damned "energy star" ratings, modern dishwashers have to use less water, so to get the dishes clean, they do them over and over and over.
