I did this disc brake conversion back in 1979 on my 50 Studebaker pickup using 1979 chevy Malibu rotors, bearings, calipers on the stock solid axel. I still have these parts today on my truck. I hand made my own caliper bracket as there were no kits back then for this application. Also used Chevy Vega steering box (still on the truck). Even back then it was pretty simple to convert the brakes.

Where did you get this kit? I have a 47 Studabaker Truck. Thanks

It is the Turner brake kit and the website is turnerbrake.com Mr Turner put the kit together that utilizes Chevy rotors that will mount onto the spindle. He also has a kit to mount a dual master cylinder. If the website isn’t working please let me know and I’ll hunt down his email. Hope this helps. Billy

Thank you for the video. I’m thinking of putting that kit on my ‘59 Studebaker Silver Hawk.

I would recommend doing so if only to establish a modern, easier to maintain system. I know for my pickup the kit fit like a glove. Good luck. Billy

I would appreciate any feedback on what I could do to improve the video once you get your system on. Thanks.

@@billyt5924 okay i can do that but it looks good so far ill find out once I do mine. Are you changing out your master cyl? Im putting a new one on mine I hope that goes well there might be some problems with the rod length the turner kit says .

Hi Billy nice job on the video , i also have a early 49 truck and have been working on it from time to time . i installed the turner dual master cylinder kit a few years ago and am thinking of installing the disk brake conversion kit , a question that i have is were you able to use your original front wheels with this brake conversion as i have noticed on Jim's website it says you might have to go with a GM wheel . thanks

It is possible to use your Studebaker rims but I found that I needed to change out the lugs for longer ones so I could add a spacer to move the rim away from the caliper. I decided against that and went withe Chevy rims. My Studebaker rims were 15” so I am not sure how the 16” rims that came with some trucks would have the same issue.

Hello, really not sure what you are asking about?

Do you have an estimate on how long this took? I'm sorry if you addressed that in the video, I missed it.
@billyt59242 жыл бұрын
Hello, I believe this could be done between 2 to 4 hours depending on confidence / experience levels and conditions. I didn't have the cab or fenders on so I had easy access. The kit fit really well. However, if you decide to use the Turner Master Cylinder kit then you will probably need a good day to mount it. I do have videos for the Turner Master Cylinder install that might be worthwhile watching. Thanks for the note and feel free to give me a holler any time. Billy
