Drove one for a couple of years as the family car....Towed trailer with it to and had no issues...Mine was a standard shift...

Those old Buicks had vacuum operated windshield wipers. They would barely move when you were going up a hill, and flap like crazy going downhill.

That Buick is 1 year older than I am 🙂 If you can find the data plate, you can check on the date of manufacturer. It 'should' show the model year, too 🙂 Fun Times Ahead ! 🙂

Great car. You have a dead cylinder. That's why it's running rough and smells rich. use gloves and pull one plug wire off at a time until you find the one that doesn't cause the engine to run even worse, and that's your culprit. It'll be something as simple as a fouled plug or something more involved like a stuck valve. That popping makes me think it has a stuck intake valve. The carb probably needs gone through again, more in depth. Have fun.

Buick Dytnaflow trans. Single Speed in Drive. Selector in "L" and you have another gear. Transmission is a Torque Converter just like Chrysler Fluid Drive except its a GM Trans. Another big issue is the TOREQUE TUBE. Enclosed driveshaft. Tranny seal leaks and all fluid empties in rear end. I had to open plug in rear end to drain Trans Fluid out. Finally fluid leaked into rear brakes and soaked everything and they were useless. 8 cylinder straight was doggy. Front end had fluid upper "A" frame as its shocks. Like KNEE action. Plus it was a dog with gas mileage. This was in 1958. Drove my car till my Father ordered it off driveway. Oil everywhere.
