really nice machine, i wish that i could have kept my 51 more "classic" but the parts were too expensive to repair my 216 compared to getting a 350 setup. i'm real happy to have a lot more power i can now pass slow trucks on the highway XD. you have an awesome car and it sounds great!

It might be 2 years but i cant help pointing something out. @ 4:02 you can seehis exhaust touching the diff and brake line. Besides being noisy, the heat from the exhaust can make the fluid boil in the tube and that will completely negate stopping ability, _especially_ sonce 99 out of 100 peope for whatever reason dont upgrade these old single reservoir systems with no proportion valve meaning any leak anywhere means you lose all braking in all 4 corners. This great guy is still around so it never happened to him thankfully but it can happen

@@GenerationOldschool I’ve had it around 70ish so far, I just rebuilt the front end and had an alignment done so I may take it a little faster, I’ll usually take back roads to car shows and cruise around 50, more scenic that way. It’s definitely nice to have the ability to hop on the expressway though.

Good call on the full pressure motor and 3.55 rear. I wish I would have kept my 3.55 rear in and just put the 3 speed in when I took my power glide out instead of going to a T5 and an S10 rear. Now I can't go back to not having overdrive because I'm used to being able to drive 80 but I would have loved to try that combination out. On that note if anyone's looking for a 3.55 rear I have one for sale in perfect condition...$400 drum to drum including the torque tube
@GenerationOldschool3 жыл бұрын
Why do you say you rather have a 3 speed with powerglide rear end instead of a full automatic powerglide transmission?
@ninja636393 жыл бұрын
@@GenerationOldschool I know you're selling one so I dont want to ruin that but since you asked... The powerglide was horrible man. It was super slow off the line, it was slow once it was shifted, going down hill if you let off the gas you would keep speeding up, if the vaccum valve went bad (which mine did) and you let off the gas it would suck trans fluid into the intake and smoke out of the tailpipes, you cant rap the pipes without engine braking and it weighs about 200 pounds.

@@ninja63639 The PowerGlide from 1950-1952 was just like a Buick Dynaflow--torque converter with no gears, slow as molasses. Lots of drivers when they were new would manually start in low gear. At least in 1953 they added a low gear start, which Dynaflows never had until they got the switch-pitch stator in the converter in 1955, called Variable Pitch Dynaflow.

I like your engine swap, I have a 59 235 out of a truck in my 52 chevy business coupe. I also put a EFI in it. It runs great but I'm thinking about changing the 3 on the tree for a 5 speed manual out of a S-10, if I do I will have to change the rear end also. Stay safe from St. Pete.
@fatotis62732 жыл бұрын
Most likely as the 52 has a torque tube drive train. I have heard of folks adapting modern trans to torque tubes but I have not seen it personally. Modern trans use driveshafts with u joints on both ends.

you have a wonderful car. In 1968, when I was 15, I inherited my grandfather's 1949 chevy, deluxe, fastback. He had been an auto mechanic but died before I was old enough to talk to him about it. The dash was like yours with the vertical radio and square buttons. It tried to drive it from Oklahoma to South Texas in '68 but while trying to pass a car threw a rod. The car would usually crude at 45 or 50 but I pushed the 216 to over 60 that day. Sorry to say.three The rear end you installed is genius. Did you change our the bulbs when you went to 12v ? What about the starter? Are the original wires holding up? I need to say as a 70 year old white guy in not a fan of lowering -- but you have done a wonderful job. Post more as you go. David Austin

If that engine is rebuilt, there should be no concern about speed. I drove my rebuilt '56 235 just like any other car today with no issues. These engines are actually more robust than today's engines.

More robust than today's engines? That's not saying much. I agree with your intent 100%. In another 70 years when the cars from today have been recycled 10 times these old 50s cars and engines will still be desirable and running strong 🤘
