There were two styles for sedans at this time..styleline and fleetline...fleetline was the fastback type model. Styleline as a typical configuration with the trunk bustle out back eventually won in that competition. However, as we know, fastbacks weren't done...there were plenty of examples years later, like the fastback Riviera!
This was the second year of this dramatically restyled car....and the first year Powerglide was offered. This car looks like it's in original condition..amazing in a car 61 years old!

Seems i've made it all the way through your 1949 videos. This beauty sure seems like a good start for my trek through 1950 :)

Yes indeed, not much change in the 1950 models from their predecessors. I think they were recouping some of the cost of the monumental '49 change. Thanks! :) Jack

This is a beautiful car, Jack! I love the late '40's/early '50's Chevy's, such a beautiful shape to them I always thought :D

The chrome really sparkles next to the beautiful black paint.

@Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Yeah, that visor was a very popular extra on cars of the day...particularly Chevys and Pontiacs. It was very useful in the days before tinted windshields and air conditioning. The Fleetline had the problem of somewhat limited vision to the rear. That slanted window contributed. Thanks! :) Jack

You're right, parts are getting hard to find and expensive. And taking time building the car sure does pay off. Thanks for the video! I'll check out your others in the future : )

Love me an old 49 fastback with 3 on the tree. My first car!

Hey, James! I love those old fastbacks! They went out of style, then came back in style with the Marlin and the Charger! Glad this video brought back those memories! Thanks! :) Jack

My cousin own's a 2 door that was his high school car he had it completely restored off frame restored everything back to stock. He had somethings powdered coated the frame and other parts that will out last his great grandchildren. I have a 1947 Chevy coupe stylemaster I done a whole lot of modification 250 straight six with 350 automatic transmission 5on5 lugs disc brakes in the front 12 volt conversion. The fronts seats I want to change out to recliners front sofa seats for driving long distance if I have to sleep on those fronts seats I want to be as coffterble as possible and power steering if I could only choose brakes or power steering I would choose power steering.

Sounds like you want to adapt your '47 to your specific needs...and I say, more power to you! You will be glad that you upgraded the seats on a long journey. Sounds very cool, and I think power steering would be a distinct advantage. Thanks! :) Jack

That looked pretty nice! I own one too. I don't recall reverse lamps being an option on any 1950 models, as every one I've seen, even abandoned ones rusting away still had reverse lamps (or at least holes for them if the cars had been parted out some). The clock was indeed an option (so was the push button radio), and is a quartz wind up! Lol. Mines never been cleaned and still works, and my 77 Corvettes electric clock and my 81 Monte Carlos electric clock didn't even work... I'm lucky that my '50 came with all the bells and whistles stock, and with the visor on the windshield, the only visibility problems are with traffic lights in which (and I'm sure you know) they had the traffic light viewing glass you mounted to the dash. Very neat. This car may have had a split manifold (hard to find) but once I re-do the exhaust on mine I'm going to Y pipe it to have dual tips just because I like the look. There's nothing like cruising one of these cars on a nice evening with all the chrome shining and big squishy seats. I'm tempted to actually fill up my old swamp cooler to really get into the era lol. I got mine as an all original neglected, but not rusted project that still needs paint (it's in a gloss black sealer primer now but will be a brandywine when done) and the upholstery is same as the one in the video so I'll change it later once I can afford to everything. Had it for 9 years now, an built 3 cars since. Time to pull it to the front of the line and finish it!

That's a very interesting chronology of car restoration! I think it's probably the norm...tv shows tend to depict it as a three day thing...I'd much rather take my time and turn my attention to the various things that need fixing! A complete car sure is great to have...so much time can be spent trying to hunt down parts that may never be found. Those swamp coolers are fascinating to me..I've videoed some in the course of videoing cars. Take care, and thanks for the response! :) Jack

@mysticmrsam Hey, Patrick! That they did...with a transmission of their own design! Ford relied on Borg Warner for theirs in the early years. I have an ad in which they give credit to B-W for it! Thanks! :) Jack

@Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! The fastback style did continue somewhat with the first Barracuda and and Charger and Marlin..but then evolved as hatchbacks. For some reason, hatchbacks never got the popularity here they had other places. Hard to explain, for they are very versatile. Thanks! :) Jack

As a top of the line model, I'm surprised the it doesn't have a radio. That oprion is rather complicated as this radio is a two part unit. The tuner part was mounted on the dash vertically. The antenna, mounted on the driver's fender almost not seen by the driver.

Hey, Dale! Yes, by the 50's, radio was a very popular item! I think some older folks could have viewed a radio as a distraction....while the youngsters wouldn't dream of not having one! The transistorized radios of the 60's sure changed the size and complexity of the radios, making them far easier to mount. Thanks! :) Jack

@The18Jake Hey, Jake! I'm sure they did...police departments mainly drew from the "big 3" although there were occasional Nashes. I remember seeing mostly Ford police cars in movies set in this era, but that could have been an artifact of Ford supplying cars for the movies. Thanks! :) Jack

@drewerz01 Hey, Mike! I remember waiting with anticipation when the 49 restyled models were introduced...it was the first time a car ad took up two pages in the city paper...it was a "shocking" change compared to the 48! Not anywhere near the same anticipation for new models today, unfortunately! Thanks! :) Jack

I hope one of my viewers can answer your question. My guess is that these were optional equipment for this car, made by GM. Thanks! :) Jack

Saludos.
