Don‘t oil the keys. Oil is one of the reasons for the stickiness. Usually what happens is that oil mixes up with dirt and gets stuck in between the typebars and the basket. So the best way to remove stickiness is to completely clean the basket by soaking it in mineral spirits. Some folks clean it first with wd40 and then soak with mineral spirits (don‘t ever leave wd40 as they will get gummy, only use them to soften the hardened grime and then wash them with mineral spirits).

​@@loveisall5520 You should sparingly use light oil in the correct areas, don't avoid oil completely. There are many examples of instruction manuals and service manuals saying this, oil makes the mechanisms run smoother, if you don't overoil it shouldn't gum up. The important thing is to oil sparingly in the correct areas but don't avoid it altogether, and issues relating to sticky parts can be fixed by using mineral spirits to clean the pivot points first

Hi, sorry for the late reply. James is correct, it does have a margin set on the back/top of the carriage. If yours does not set still, there might be problems requiring some repairs.
