1950's Auto Yard Hidden in the Forest | More than 400 Vintage Cars | Destination Adventure

I have driven past this auto yard for years, and have always wondered what was hidden behind the gate. You can see one row of cars from the road, and they are completely overgrown and hidden in the surrounding forest and foliage. I knew I was going to see some amazing stuff during this explore, but I had no idea just how much was there. This wrecking yard started in the 1950's and only ran for a few years but accumulated a huge amount of cars. Back then they were just regular every day cars and trucks, but today they are very sought after relics and treasures.
Even though this wrecking yard isn't technically a working yard now, but Doug is still adding cars to his collection and selling all kinds of irreplaceable parts and complete vehicles. This was a very interesting and fascinating one for me and I think you will all enjoy it as well.

My mother's family had a farm in the Catskills of NY. When 1 car, truck, tractor, or machine would cease to do its' job they would simply "get another." Some had just run out of gas or needed a battery! Well, after a while, the hedgerows of the farm became "junkyards" in their own right. When her uncle passed on her aunt sold...and sold...and sold. For 2 weeks there was a steady stream of trucks, trailers, rollbacks, wreckers, etc.coming off that mountain. The year was c.1972.......to me- it was a sad end to a 14 year old's playground! This video hit home...thanks!

Bob Sibson was a gas station owner and operator for 17 and a half years and was my dad, he died in 2017. He began in the 1950's He might have worked on one or two of those 400 cars. So now, those cars are now running in Cuba cause that's all they got parts for and that's all they do restore is old cars in Cuba. In those days, you had your window washed, oil checked, tires checked, that as you were getting your gas, and if you needed work on your car, he and his old mechanics did that too. I've been a car guy since before my memory was developed around five years old. In my teens and twenties I'd been a gear head. And I still love cars today particularly vintage cars. What I'm seeing in this video are a lot of cars that could have had parts sold from them but instead all except for one car have been left unprotected to deteriorate and becomes completely ruined, as now they don't have much for even basic parts at all. It's just a yard of sadness.

His dad started the business and he passed. So basically this guy ran his dad's business iinto the woods.Sad and this guy is proud of this auto salvage yard. Hint cut down some trees let the sun dry out these cars before they are part of the earth...

Car production was stopped during WWII, so everyone had to make do with the cars they had. A lot of them were worn out before the war even started. However, the lack of new cars meant that those prewar cars were literally driven until the wheels fell off and then put back together. That all changed after the war especially when the new models started coming out. Cars were built and sold at a rate never seen before. That is why you almost never see any of the 1930s or older cars, yet sometimes you can still find places like this packed with late 40's early 50's cars. Great video!

I've driven past that lot 100's if not 1000's of times. Friend of a family member was restoring a car and got some parts there. He knows exactly where everything is in that yard. I still remember it as a gas station with the mechanical pump.

All I can type is WOW, there was a channel that disappeared, showed the Pearson Junkyard in Death Valley, the photog would “paint” the old cars with lights, awesome pictures, that junkyard was cleaned up several years ago, damn I miss that channel, don’t know what happened, but, this vid is just as awesome, they took pics at night, the Chrysler Imperial was my favorite, good work Dustin, keep it up, love your finds,fascinating!!

We had a guy in our town who had a large woodlot filled with several hundred cars like this, all 30s, 40s, 50s, maybe some earlier. He lived on a dirt dead-end road and had these hand-painted warning signs that trespassers would be shot. The woods had swallowed up the cars, and you would only see them in the winter when the leaves were down. Even then they blended into the forest due to all the overgrowth. He wouldn't sell anything, not even parts. I had a friend who owned a salvage yard nearby and actually knew this guy (few people did). My understanding was he thought of the cars as his retirement, but he was in his 70s when I was there. He died in the mid-90s and the cars rotted for a few more years, trees growing through windshields and engine hoods. One summer a group of workers showed up, cut the trees around the cars, they took everything in a three-day period. Never heard, who bought the hulks, very hush hush.

There was a time when you could go to auto wreckers and see these things awaiting revival. Not any more .that place is a gold mine for gearheads . I wish to meet that man soon . This is a really good video. Doug is an excellent guide, he really knows his stuff and is a true enthusiast. Lots of nice domestic cars and some pretty rare ones in there too like the Mercurys, low light Morris Minor, MK1 Jag sedan. Yards like this have mostly vanished now so this is a treat. One note on the Fargo, in the late 1970s I started work for Bell Telephone and although they weren't as flashy as the Ford's and Chevs the build quality of the Dodge(Fargo) trucks was impressive. Very cool Dustin. Down here in Georgia we have a similar junkyard called Old Car City. The owner actually runs it as a Musuem and charges admission. It is real popular with photographers. Hope to be able to check it out soon

An amazing collection. In New Zealand there is Horopito motors,National park. Formerly owned by Bill Cole,his son took it over. My friend Roger and I use to visit back in the eighties for parts. Used in the 1975 film "Smash Palace" starring Bruno Lawrence.It is the largest wreckage & salvage site in the southern hemisphere. As well as north american,you can find cars from all over the world.

These are my favorite places.. I live on the east side of Canada and places like this still exist but the cars are usually rotten at least to the waist line. Even cars from the 80 and 90s are not match for the moist salty humid air.

It's a junk yard. Usually the cars there are not able to be more than parts being sold off them so other cars can be restored, they usually have some kind of major unrepairable damage and salvage titles. As me and my husband call it, a car graveyard.

I still think it is sad, Most of these cars would be able to resurrect when they came in and where preserved (dry storage) Now they all have died. Who wants to visit a graveyard to see dead bodies?

They were either non repairable or would have cost more to fix than they would be worth fully restored when they got there. BUT they are able to supply cars with parts and live on. Kind of like a organ donor.

Great yard. Where is it? I looked up Doug Shaw Auto Wrecking and there is more than one. The one that pops up first is in SC and is obviously not this one. BTW the Fargo PU is a Dodge licensed for production in Mexico. Fargo is just the Mexican version of Dodge.
