Happy May Day everyone! Thanks for taking a few minutes today to watch my latest project. I thought that it was appropriate to revive (restore?) a spring classic - the garden/grass shears. I found these at a yard sale a while ago and got them for super cheap because they were corroded shut from rust. I actually scratched off a layer of rust before I even turned on the camera for this project. I went crazy and totally over-restored these because I wanted to practice a glossy paint finish and I wanted to try copper plating. It was way too much for a cheap set of vintage grass shears but I think that the choice of green with the copper plating looks amazing and I hope you do too. I welcome all comments, positive and otherwise, but please keep it respectful. I hope everyone has a great day today, whatever day you are reading this! Cheers! 🍻

Wonderful way to restore that

Thank you! It was a bit much for a simple set of garden shears but it was fun to do. Thanks for the nice comment. Peace!

Again a wonderful and hard-worked restoration. Also the video is very funny mate 😊👌👌👌

Thank you! It would be easier if I would stop dropping newly painted things. This was supposed to be a quick and simple revival. ✌🏽🌻

@@Restorology I really liked how you dropped it and dealt with it in such a great manner. Putting it into perspective for people who are getting into stuff like this that it's not the end of the world and just to clear your head and get right back to it is refreshing to see. Thank you.

People seem to rave over sandblasting, but I really enjoy nice file work on the extra casting lines etc. You could have made unique handles with all that filler. 😁 Cute puppy by the way. I'm sure it isn't a puppy, but they all are to me. Great work as always.

It was a ridiculous amount of filler! Thanks for the comment. 🤙

Saludos

Nice job 👍 Firstly yes I have many boxes of random junk just like you because you can always find a use for it as you have. Yes I think you put way to much putty on it. I think the filler spray might have done the job ok. Turned out great though. Nice plating work and I love the colour choice. You paint patch even turned out great. Well done, great work

Dude it was a ridiculous amount of filler. It was curing so fast I just dumped it on as fast as I could. It looked so stupid but it came off easily enough so no harm done. 🍻

It looks great and a wonderful job restoring them! I am so glad you didn't take the blades apart!! I don't see why some that restorers do that when it never looks as good then they go to redo the rivets most of the time. LMAO at the Band-Aids!!! Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up

Thanks for the nice comment. I saw no benefit to removing the blades to make this a working tool again. I am glad you feel the same way. See you in the next one!

Haha! At her recommendation I ended up finding some cheap plastic containers at a yard sale! I am saved! Stay tuned if you'd like to see if I can pull off using the kitchen oven to cure a powder coated piece. Thanks for the comments!! 🌻

Filler, primer and paint were put on way too thick. Holes should have been covered or filled with clay. Nickel and copper plating was a little overboard.
@Restorology2 жыл бұрын
The amount of everything I did was ridiculous for an old set of garden shears. If you watch my channel you know I don't usually go overboard with any of this but I was trying out a few new things and decided to just go nuts on it. With regards to the nickel and copper, I needed to plate the nickel to give the copper something it can bond to...it doesn't bond well to steel or zinc. I've never copper plated before so it was trial and error, with a lot of error that didn't make the final edit or it would have been a snoozer. Thanks for the feedback!! 🍻

I'm sure I don't need to warn you but just in case: KEEP YO FINGIES AWAY FROM THE BLADES. I was doing some very last minute floral arrangements, wasn't paying attention, caught my finger, sliced it down to the bone almost. Then of course I got freaked out and just about passed out on the floor when I saw it. At a wedding. Surrounded by people. But I didn't get blood on my nice dress and I didn't need stitches (my aunt is a nurse and had a first aid kit) so it could've been worse.

If you watch enough of my videos, you will see that I am always bleeding at some point during the project. A cut from these would only be an inconvenient flesh wound compared to some of my other injuries.
