Narrow gauge railroads are so interesting to me. Most were phased out or converted to standard gauge, but a surprising number of them continued to operate as they were originally chartered until they were abandoned or turned into tourist lines.

As a kid this line was still hauling freight in the Four Corners area, not just in & out of Durango. They had a yard in Aztec N.M. across the street from our home, myself and other neighborhood kids used to play and climb all over the cars and engines ( when cold ) rail workers never bothered us. I still have color 8mm movies my dad took between 1960- 66.

So cool to see the clip from gato. I grew up close to pagosa junction and seeing the ghost of what was made my imagination run wild. Does anyone know if there’s more footage of pagosa junction?

ngl. It feels different to see d&rgw 487 without its snowplow as it still wears to this day

How about 464? Strange to see it in the Southwest after all these years of running in Michigan.

Actually, this was well after steam was king. But I understand what you mean.
