Henry Js were built by Kaiser Motors and named for the company's founder, Henry J. Kaiser. They were also sold at Sears stores under the Allstate name. Kaiser only lasted for eight years,; it started in 1945 and merged with Willys-Overland in 1953.
@urbanurchin59303 жыл бұрын
A little further back in history....Henry Kaiser's company built ships during WWII. He developed a health plan for his workers in the shipyards because he felt that a healthy employee would be more productive (of course, he was correct). The resulting health care company today is known as Kaiser Permanente. After the war, the company also built home appliances like refrigerators and (I think) washing machines. The appliances were sold (by Sears) under the Kelvinator name.
@patrickmoran87903 жыл бұрын
The original engine used in the Henry J wasn’t a powerful engine. It used a Continental flathead four cylinder, possibly 134 cubic inch, and related to some farm tractor and industrial engines of the time. They came with a three speed column shift transmission. The Henry J was built as an economy car, as was Willys, and very light as compared to what GM, Chrysler, and Ford were doing. The Big Three didn’t follow the economy idea of that time to that level. These Revell gasser kits are reissues of kits from the late ‘60’s, when it was common to see Ohio George, Big John, SWC, Pittman, et al, in Hot Rod magazine, and similar magazines, until NHRA quit gassers and altereds due to funny cars and evolution of dragsters, and ?safety?.

Of all Revell's gassers, I built them all except for the Henry J. My loss-- that monster Ford SOHC 427 is awesome! These cars are often run with tinted glass now. With the printed templates this is easy to do using stationery report covers for acetate -- blue, red, or even smokey gray look cool. If you mount the seatbelt decals on aluminum foil and then cut them out, it's easier to drape them on the seat and without the decal snuggling into the sear texture. I like painting those headers VHT flat white -- they bring out the other colours in the engine bar. That red REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT tag on the decal sheet would look great hung off the parachute pack. Nice job, Chris. I think I'll go looking for this one!

Reminds me back in High School one of us ran across a Henry J, we all chipped in and bought it. Cleaned up the body, got a Chevy engine running on the stand. Never got the suspension set up and not a good interior. No money, we let it go. Learned a lot about engines and body work though. Always wondered what it could have been. Thanks for a great video.

This ALMOST gave me the "Willis" (also made by Kaiser Motors, like this Henry J). But the Henry J could ALSO be bought from the Sears Catalog and delivered by freight train as the "Sears Allstate Coupe". This Henry ain't THAT. With A GIANT HEMI and a B&M Hydro Stick trans I'd bet THIS one could get past the stock Henry J's top speed of 60 just a few feet beyond the start line. It must have been a rush... A GREAT build, Chris. Again, your detailing is amazing. Thanks for doing this!

You did a great job with that kit; especially, your assembly of that multi piece hood. Very nice color choice. Nice to see you using super glue gel, which I think is the best invention for modelers since Testors silver. Lol. Big shoutout to Revell for the dash gauges and the seat belt decals. They are doing the dash decals in a lot of their kits now. Please don’t cut out the “rock video” section. I like the music. Just maybe talk about the small cans of spray paint you used, and be sure to put up graphics on all of the brush paints.

I have been watching/subscribed for a while. I enjoy the passion of creation and making it "your" own.... it's about having fun. Modeling keeps one young and it is a art form, and with any Art form the critics contribute their opinion.... no matter good or not it got through... example, as an artist Picaso is laughing all the way to the bank.
