1951 VW Beetle Nurburgring Nordschleife Lap

Made the lap in my 1951 vw beetle with Eva restos suspension and a light built 1641cc motor with dual carbs, scat racing cam. The high elevation and altitude I think played a factor on a couple straights at high speed where the car lost speed halfway through. Car was fun but with a 8” narrowed front beam and skinny tires up front made foxhole (4:20) a sketchy time. Otherwise car was good and had to stay right a lot obviously. she survived the ring

VERY nice one dude. I imported collector cars from the US into France. Mostly drove Porsche and old Mustangs round. Took a BMW AC Schnitzer to Nurburgring, but closed due to snow. Started my car life with EVERY kind of early VWs and naturally transitioned to Porsches.

Might be nice to have sessions for old slow cars.. my favourite 'driver's' car was a 1972 FIAT 850 I had as a student. It was amazing in the wet on tiny crossply tyres ..very sideways even at 25-30 mph! I also had a 60's beetle and driving it fast in traffic took quite a bit of concentration.. I can see that you spent a large proportion of your lap looking in the mirrors for Porsche's going 100 kph faster than you! Still, fun to watch, kind of.. thanks for the vid.

Thanks for the support! I’d have to say I was impressed. 8” narrowed beam and 2” drop swing plates. The ride is still firm when you want it but rides very smooth. Eva resto make some great parts

Lol. I've never seen the Nordschleife at that pace before. That was super sketchy. The lowest point on the Nordschleife is where you were at, at 7:10 in your video, so it's mostly downhill before that point, and mostly uphill after that point.

Ok ya so the uphills I started to notice loss of power like I did in the valleys on the way there. Makes sense. I feel it wasn’t as sketchy as it looks, I was over 100 for the majority of track and was capable of hitting 130+ i believe. Just takes a while to get there sometimes 😅

That was the sketchiest part of the whole day. There’s a slight dip into the apex and the swing axle suspension didn’t agree with it at that speed. The rest of the stance on the car definitely doesn’t help but made it quite interesting there. The car is not super confidence inspiring over 125 😂

It’s for clearance, beetles already have fairly skinny fronts to begin with. Handles fine, I don’t have a problem but maybe you would.
