I’m about ready to start doing body work , gap fixing and metal repair on mine. Did the exact same conversion you did, with the window/door jamb panels and hate myself for it. Wish I would have just cut the windows and used those, and built off of the b pillar. But here we are I’m absolutely dreading it Thanks for the video!

Thanks for watching. If I had my time back, I would have used the 4 door pillars and re-worked them. I'm not really a fan of the aftermarket panels. Either that or spent the BIG money on full quarters. It's a big job.

Ed nice to see you making some progress on fitting the doors on the 55. the car is going to be really nice car. i am getting ready to start on some rust repairs on the 57 wagon. have a great weekend.
@SlowCarFix Жыл бұрын
I'm making progress, but there's not a lot to show because it's more of the same welding and fixing. Glad to hear your wagon is going to get some attention soon!

Ed look into those cheap air pillow bladders you pump up with your hand. You can put two in the door jam deflated at the bottom on each end close the door and pump them up to close the gap on top. tighten bolts from inside with door shut. Pretty much use them all over I bought them they work great and their cheap...Glenn.
@SlowCarFix Жыл бұрын
I will look for them! That sounds like a great solution for working by myself.

@@SlowCarFix Amazon has them 3Pc set Bershaker $15 free shipping too. I think thats where I got mine there very strong and durably madefor the $. I used them to get in my car once also to wedge the door open at the top to get a wire and string in worked great for that too..

Bought some of these bladders, looking forward to trying them out! Thanks for the tip!

you need to fit the rubber door seals on the door to get a proper gap the seal will alter the gap
@SlowCarFix Жыл бұрын
Yes, I am aware of this. I'm doing the preliminary adjustments at this point. The doors will be coming back off several times during the body work process. Right now, I'm just making them fit the hole.

good job but to be definitively efficient, you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body, cavities - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and poor old oil everywhere each year.Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

Thank you. I will be greasing and oiling every metal area I can, but this must be after the paint. I don't want to contaminate any primer or paint products. Thanks for the tip and for watching.

What tig wire are you using to “add” onto the door to reduce the gap?

Your solution for the door is wrong since the rear quarter was added to the car and the door is original as far as a door. Then you should go by the door for your straight edge not the quarter. If you do like you plan then your seam will be slanted. l know its a driver not a show car and thats okay but go by the door not the quarter which you added Just my opinion sorry
@SlowCarFix Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your opinion. It's a miracle this car is anything other than scrap, so I'll run with what I'm doing. thanks for watching.
