Nice truck...AND a NAPCO !!! I have a '68 K-10 that I'm doing a wood bed for. Good luck w/it.

Well done. Thanks for putting this up, as I have this task ahead of me on my '51 3100. I shall refer back to this when the times comes. Color even looks the same, I used Ford Chrome Yellow. The old Chevy doesn't seem to mind a Ford color, so it is all good.

Very nice job! That bed turned out great. I'm just getting started on a '56 Stepside 4-spd

Thanks for the nice comment. Your first series may be different than mine. I believe yours uses wood block spacers. On mine, the front bed panel sits on the leading edge of the boards, it is not bolted directly to the cross member. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the comment. This truck started out as a 2 wheel drive. It requires a few holes drilled in the crossmember and frame to install a NAPCO 4x4 system. It is a bolt up affair. This driveline came off a 58. Just go find the parts and convert yours.

Great job! I've got to build my bed in a few days.

Yes it is. I just had the cab completely redone, & repainted in it's original black. I rebuilt the engine (a '69 327 from an Impala). I have a few more mechanicals to do on it, as well as building the bed ,& it'll be ready to go.

Good luck with your bed, I hope my video helps. It went smoothly because it was the third time. I had to make a lot of adjustments and do some cutting on the wood before it fit perfectly.

Nice video. I have been putting off replacing my rotten and rusty bed for years, and after watching this video, I think it will be the next thing I replace on my 56 stepside. How many people have asked if you can help them move since you got it done? LOL!

@OldVideoMonkey Yellow is beautiful on these old trucks. Mine is Corvette Yellow. There are a lot of differences on the pre 55.2 beds, but I hope the video helps you! You have wooden blocks to deal with on yours if I remember correctly?

Your garage must be immaculate! I could never go barefoot in mine! haha. Do you know if those clips that hold the sills in place are available aftermarket? my truck came without a bed and all I can find are the rubber pads. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment. I like the 68 year, is it a 4x4? Look at the description of my video to find a link to the finished truck. Or look at my other videos. It was a 6 year labor of love.

Thanks. The wood has been holding up to weekly trips to the dump, scratches and Florida sun. I'm glad I didn't go with a varnish finish.
@jomichael3211 жыл бұрын
I am pretty positive you need them to raise the bed to the correct height. You should buy the factory manual so you can see how those go in. You might be able to find a diagram online somewhere or go to stovebolt[dot]com Good luck!

I know the boards are a kit , is the bed a kit?
@jomichael3210 жыл бұрын
You can buy the bed sides, front panel, and tailgate from Mar K. Then buy the wood and the stainless strips with a bolt kit and you are good to go. I used the original bed sills and fenders. As you see in the video I had to dado a channel on the outer two bed strips so they fit nicely under the bed sides.

And so whats the name of that yellow?
@jomichael3210 жыл бұрын
It's a modern Chevy yellow that they use on the corvettes. There was a Yukon Gold available in 55, but it had a more orange tint that I didn't like.
