These videos are brilliant. The jump which you call Flugplatz is actually Quiddelbacher Höhe. Flugplatz is the following right hand sweeper, and got it's name from the site being a paragliding location.

It's a more fitting name for this jump, though, as it's like cars are taking off from the airfield.

Not sure why everyone uses this version of the Nordschliefe. I find the textures of this version difficult to look at, even compared to the original game. I can't remember what my version is a called, but it doesn't have muddy brown grass, dark tarmac, and mismatched stretchy nuclear trees and flat bushes that hang in the air. It's way more sparse compared to this one, but it's a tradeoff that I think is worth it. Nice tarmac, though.

@@armorgeddon Looking through my files and a thread, I can't narrow it down past the fact it might be either "dunky" or "XKelaa/XK" versions - not sure. Regarding brake fade, in modern cars, it's more about heat. Boiling the brake fluid will rob you of any brakes, and when it happens you just have zero brake. In racing though it might be different depending on the money involved in the sport. I'm sure F1 has gotten around that problem.
@Michael_Lorenson5 жыл бұрын
It's always about heat. Always. In drum brakes, the friction material on the brake shoes became too hot to do its job, so you got fade but usually without a soft pedal. It was also possible for brake drums to become 'bell-shaped' as the metal softened due to excessive heat, which reduces the contact area between brake shoe and brake drum. Due to their basic design, and their higher clamping forces, disk brakes produce more heat AND transfer heat to the fluid more readily. As friction materials improved, even more heat was generated. So with disk brakes, it is the fluid that fails before the pads get too hot to produce friction. Modern brake fluids can be stable to something like 600 F, while friction materials can take far more. So the fluid boils first, and the pedal goes soft.
@NeonsStyleHD5 жыл бұрын
@@Michael_Lorenson Yes, and once the fluid boils, air bubbles form in the brake fluid and that is why you lose your brakes. It gives a very very spongy pedal.

Not pissed, but frustrated sometimes. I mean, it's a bit like, "Well, if you really want the results, you kind of have to push." You figure out how to take the tougher parts better, even, or especially, those "frightening" corners, since that's what's required to make the time and positions. In particular, I'll say that you look to drive quite "straight", not power-sliding perhaps as much as you'll have to to get the most potential pace. And no, having grown up with Macs, not PCs, and that still being the case, with little chance of changing any time soon, yeah, I'd love the chance to practice this stuff myself on a reliable basis, even with my lousy eyesight, but there just hasn't been the opportunity. All that said, there does seem to be something possibly a bit off. That is, in reality, these lap times weren't seen until 1957, when Fangio in the Maserati 250F turned a 9:25.6 for Pole, and then bettered that to a 9:17.4 in the race. And of course, that was on a course that didn't include the Hohenrain chicane, unlike what we have here in GPL And actually, the Metzgesfeld-to-Kallenhard segment may have been more open (i.e. faster) back then (prior to 1973) than what is depicted here.
