That 235 six has plenty of life left in it. It's a shame to swap it out. It is capable of today's traffic. I put 150 thousand on mine till the fiber timing gears went and I sold it.

My first American Car, 1967 , I was 14 yrs old and found a 2dr 210 Green & Black. The old cast iron case powerglide trans was half the weight of the car. It wasn't but a couple of weeks before I had a clutch pedal hanging from under the dash, a 3 speed and the Hurst Mystery Shifter linkage.

*- That 216 straight six has more oomph than most people understand.* *- Put some tall tires that are not over-width on it and it will fly and corner better.* *- Fix it to run as is and get the owner to drive it.* *- There is probably more value in it with original factory matching numbers, than with changed engines.*

I would have thought that as you are going to stuff a LS in the car that you would do a front disc conversion with some power assist. I once drove a very good condition stock 56 Chevy from London to Portugal and it was a nightmare on the brakes - totally crap. Also no front anti roll bar so I think a baby pram would corner better. Great looking cars but I think they need a lot of work to get them fit for modern traffic.
