On “My Car Story” we're in Scottsdale AZ on 1-21-23.
We’re looking at a 1956 Chrysler 300B in White Paint. The car comes with a 354 CI V8 Hemi engine with an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Cherie Gresh. Cherie’s had this car since 2021. Cherie shares she had a former Chrysler letter car however after many years of restoration the car was in a fire and totaled. She found this one with MANY years in storage as if it was waiting for her.
ENJOY!

Hi, Lou! The original 300 of 1955 was no named because it was the first production car with 300 horsepower, this from a 331 Hemi V-8. Uncle Tom McCahill called it "a hardboiled, magnificent piece of semi-competition transportation, built for the connoisseur." (BTW, it was officially the C-300, not the A.) For the B it was raised 354 cubes and 340 horses with standard 9:1 compression, and with the optional version with 10:1 compression it packed 355 horses, making it the first production car ever to reach one horsepower per cubic inch. It's really tragic that Cherie and her husband lost such a rare treasure as the 300F in the fire, but it's amazing how fate worked for them with this B. That orignial leather upholstery is still like new after 67 years! Turning this one into a low rider would be crime, because you do NOT--repeat, do NOT--mess with a legend! 300 thanks to you and Cherie for spotlighting this awesome car and taking us along for the ride!

This is a true classic! This 1956 Chrysler 300B is in pristine condition inside and out. The Hemi 354 V8 sounds smooth as well as extremely healthy! Every time I see either a Dodge or Chrysler from that era, I can't help but think of Randy Guyer in Minnesota and his massive collection of classic Mopars! This car is a true gem, Lou.

Very cool, and in my fam's neck of the 'woods' too. I have that same trunk n treats poster on my garage wall. What confuses people that don't know about the letter cars, is that the '55 was the Chrysler C 300, not 300 C which was for 57, and sometimes that's confusing.. So the 56 B is really the first 'letter' car. Oddly enough on this featured car, it sounds like it has the later production 3 speed Torqueflight, but has the 2 speed shift selector. 56 was also the 1st yr for factory black paint, added to the 55's red or white body colors. Saddle tan leather was std for 55 and 56, and this 1 looks perfect!
@noelhastalis6785
@noelhastalis6785 Жыл бұрын
Agree - but '55 C-300 colors included Black, along with Platinum (Chrysler's name for '55 white) and Tango Red. '56 colors were Cloud White, Regimental Red (a deeper red than '55's) and Raven Black. Only a handful of 300-Bs received the 3-speed TorqueFlite trans, as most, like this beautiful survivor, were fitted with the 2-speed PowerFlite automatic.

This is the last 50's Chrysler 300 that I like.The fins were understated so it still had the clean lines of the previous year. Chrysler like other car companies went off the rails with fins. The horsepower in this car was amazing. I think it has tripower. The original interior is immaculate.

This '56 300-B has dual 4-barrel Carter WCFB carbs. All 1955-1963 Chrysler Letter Cars were carbureted by dual Carter 4-barrels. Also optional on the '64 300-K. '65 300-L was single Carter AFB only. No Chrysler Letter Cars rolled off the factory assembly line with a tri-power setup.

1956 Chryslers were simply beautiful and elegant. To me, these were the last of the great Chryslers. In 1957, the Chryslers looked too close to the Dodge/Plymouth/DeSotos family. Compare a 1956 Chrysler to a 1956 of those other family members and the Chrysler will really stick out. This 300B looks great in white! Great dash! Love the idele sound too. Glad to see you're enjoying your time, there, man! Thanks tons for this great car story! 😎 P.S. It is wild to think of the racing success of these cars! Well..as big on pwr, as size. In fact, they were such beasts, the racing teams had trouble keeping tires on them..having to resort to using HD truck tires, so they weren't in the pits replacing shredded tires too often, aha. Legendary race winners, indeed.

Later in 1956 the 3-speed Torqueflite automatic was introduced. It was mainly seen in the Imperial. Cool cars. I grew up in a 1955 Chrysler 300.

@@loucostabile Yep. It was exactly like this one! I don't know about the power seat though. The car I grew up in had air horns mounted under the hood and the air tank was in the trunk. It also just had hubcaps on the wheels. I don't know why, but the glove box door was hand painted white. The car suffered some damage to the rr quarter panel from being hit on the street when parked. Being parked on the street was unusual because the car was always kept in the garage except when being driven. The quarter panel was poorly repaired. The car was always a California car but was sold to someone in Florida in the late-80's to early-90's by the widow of the man who had owned it since it was 2 years old. The guy in Florida had it shipped and maybe didn't like it when he received it. I'd bet it was the same car, but it was listed for sale in Hemmings, stating that the price was how much he had in it. I can't remember what the widow sold the car for but the guy had it listed for $5 or 6k, which would have included the shipping costs. One time the owner told me that he had the car up to 126 mph and there was still pedal left. It was fun to watch other cars clear out of the way when he blew those air horns.

It's nice hearing from a woman. I feel badly for Cherie because she lost a beautiful 1960 Chrysler 300F. And while this 1956 300 B is a nice car, as a replacement I think it has to be a disappointment after having had the 1960. Those 1960 Chryslers--all of them--were exceptionally special and that's why I feel badly for her loss.

@@loucostabile Thanks, Lou. I never doubted that women are welcome. I just wanted to say that it was nice seeing Cherie and hearing her comments. The reason is that it's almost always the guys taking part, which is fine. But it's special to hear from a woman.

Lou, A few more observations - >There never was a 300-A. Chrysler labeled it the C-300, referencing that it's a Chrysler 300, but there never was a Letter reference to the '55 300. >Optional wire wheels were factory available in '55 and '56 only, but never from Kelsey-Hayes. The wheels are by Motor Wheel Corporation. We 300 purists shudder when we hear reference to Kelsey-Hayes on Chryslers! >Triangular air cleaner on the powerful 354 cubic inch, 340 hp Hemi is referred to as the Delta Wing, and not the Bat Wing! Another 'No-No' in Chrysler circles! >The serial number is on the left "A" pillar that you briefly catch, at about 6:00 of your video. Your later question about the serial number plate is I think really asking about the body plate. These are typically found on the left side of the firewall, mid-to-lower level. >The 2nd floor button is indeed for the optional 'Town and Country' radio - selecting channels without taking your hand off the wheel. The other button is for the bright lights. >The 300-B also offered an optional 354 cubic inch 355 hp Hemi - the first car to offer at least 1 hp per cubic inch, though our Chrysler 300 Club Int'l has not been able to definitively document any of these existed. Our speculation is that these higher hp cars were ones provided to Carl Kiekhaefer who successfully raced them in NASCAR - winning 51% of all NASCAR races for the '55 and '56 seasons. The 1957 DeSoto Adventurer was the first car to offer 1 hp per cubic inch standard with its 345 cubic inch 345 hp Hemi. Chrysler Corp., and not GM/Chevy, led the pack with this. >The 300-B is the longest of all the Chrysler Letter cars at 222.7". >The outside rearview mirror on this B is aftermarket, and not Chrysler issue.

What a stunner! No wonder Virgil Exner was giving fits to Bill Mitchell and Chuck Jordan. But the gaudy GM land yachts that followed were no match for Exner’s continued development of his Forward Look. IMO the high point for Exner, and Mexican cars in general, was 1960 Chrysler coupes with their boomerang fins and pillarless design.
