Definitely a ‘one-of-a-kind’ car even if 3,000 were made. Even though this is a 1956 (and those in 1957), I’d say this Continental was way ahead of it’s time in both looks and technology for its day. What a beautiful depiction of automotive history. Thanks Lou and Jack for sharing!

Stunning! I remember as an elementary student visiting a Standard Gas Station and they had a bunch of Lincolns in the back which were probably being stored. This must have been around 1967 or 68. They had the Continental and possibly all the other Lincolns, too. It was like a dream going behind that place as even then they were collectors items!

WOW! BEAUTIFUL! Before I never care of the 50s car, even though our first family car according to my late parents was a 55 Chevy Station Wagon, way before my folks made me as a human being LOL Hahaha. Hi, Lou! Although Lincoln built the original Continental in the Forties, the 1956-57 Continental Mark II was actually made by a new Continental division that was separate from Lincoln. At that point, Henry Ford II had set a goal of making Ford a five-marque company as GM and Chrysler were back then. Mercury would be in the middle, and Edsel, to be introduced for 1958, would be the first step up from the Ford brand. Unfortunately, as Jack mentioned, the Mark II lost money, so the separate Continental division couldn't sustain itself and so future Continentals were Lincolns once again. Also, I think the company ruled that the Mark II would have been prohibitively expensive as a retractable and thus would be far more affordable as a Ford. And of course we all know what became of Edsel. That said, I enjoyed listening to Jack relate his car story of his memories of the Mark II he had back in the day, and I can well imagine how proud he must have been to be seen in it, then and today! Who knew how much intricacy was involved in those simple-looking wheel covers? Holy cow! I think his wife can forgive him for selling his first one! Anyway, what a special, phenomenal and exquisite car you and Jack have presented here! What a treat! I should have tuned in to this episode much sooner!

7:33 I wish new cars still had that sight window for the air conditioner gas. I enjoyed the coverage on this video. And that owner sure had a few great stories. Although I wonder if that used car dealer where he purchase that Lincoln back in the day , told that same my girlfriend is looking to get a car like yours to everyone that stopped at the lot. LOL

Ford spent years and a ton of money working on the design for this magnificent vehicle! Edsel Fords sons were involved in creating a new version of their dad’s beloved very first one! It had to remind people of the first generation Continentals but be all new. This is not a Lincoln! Continental was its own division like Imperial was to Chrysler. It’s always a treat to see one! Lou you may not know this but this car was imagined as the first retractable hardtop and engineers were working hard to make that happen but the rear end had to be extended to accommodate the top thus destroying the fabulous styling. Ford Fairlane got the retractable top. One soft top convertible was made for one of the Ford family members, a wife I think.

For the mark ll as the duesenberg and the other one s he mentioned thanks for the info. no one would have believed it if this car would have played the main roles in the role of a bandit well the type of driver is not visible and the car knocks people down and drives away
