The Dodgers have now slipped to 13-9, falling behind the 16-7 Braves, who will now overtake them and win the next two National league pennants. This year the Braves finished 95-59 and won the World Series while the Dodgers were 11 games back at 84-70.

Believe it or not...the organist is Jane Jarvis, who would come to Shea Stadium in 1964 to be the Organist for the Mets.

Before she became the "Queen of Melody" for the Mets at Shea Stadium, Jane Jarvis plays the National Anthem. 4:50

I’m always reminded what former Today show Frank Blair use to say. It’s not how well you know the news or sports, it’s how well you can read the ads given to you at moments notice. He did the Washington Redskins games and didn’t know football.

Ironic to hear Vin Scully refer to a trip to Milwaukee as trip to the West.

Vin Scully for whatever reason had a more relaxed casual delivery after team moved to LA. Here he sounds more like a generic announcer.

He also became a Southern California shill. His delivery was very annoying. .

Vin's comments at 6:25 are very interesting, praising the Braves fans for loudly, proudly singing the national anthem and saying "I sure wish we could do it back in Brooklyn." What, did Dodgers fans not stand for or sing the national anthem?

Not 40,000 of them. This was the last season for the Dodgers in Brooklyn, and large crowds were the exception, not the rule at Ebbets Field. Vin longed for the good, old days in Flatbush, but they were long gone.

RayManzarekRocks That's great info, Ray. I forgot that was their last season in Flatbush. I guess it was well known by then they were moving to LA and crowds dwindled. Ironically, Milwaukee would be going through the same phenomenon in 7-8 years..

Sad, indeed. The National League was much better with strong Milwaukee and Brooklyn franchises.

Truth was, you the Brooklyn “brat” fans who never did any of that. Entitled fans. Duke Snyder well tell you. That was generally the consensus of Eastern teams. That was why the Midwest so appealing to owners in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and New York. Of course, they Brooklyn and New York moved to LA and San Fran but they were trying to appeal to Midwest fans.

“A cheap nothing.” I was a Jungle Jim Rivera, Nellie Fox, Minnie Minoso fans as a boy in Wisconsin. In 1957 I was 10 years old and my little friends were always mad when we talked about the Braves and I brought up my favorite players. They said stuff about Minoso . Just like “a cheap nothing.” Even then I thought saying that stuff was very immature and childish.
