Wow, thank you for this broadcast. I was at opening day at Wrigley Field won by Willie Smith's pinch hit home run in the 11th inning. This game captures the electricity of the fans just like opening day, 1969. I look forward every day to see what is new on my favorite You Tube channel!

Another great Vinny game preserved. Thank you. Early in the game he says he wished he had a mike down in the bleachers so you could adequately feel the crowd. The love of the crowd is why Scully became a broadcaster.

Grateful for this broadcast. As a kid, I taped a '71 or '72 Giants game in which first, Bill Singer hit Willie Mays. The 3rd, Singer get dinged by Juan Marachal. It broke loose when he hit Buckner and the benches cleared. I still have Vinny's call of the fight memorized. I would love to find that cassette, or hear that once more. "It all started in the first, when Bill Singer knocked over a statue... he hit Willie Mays... ", Vin summarizes the fighr.

Ha, that's funny! Sutton was a TV announcer for Nationals for a few seasons; I didn't care for him. And he might not deserve to be in HOF due to the awful perm he sported for quite a while 😂 The 69' Dodgers also acquired Bunning a couple of weeks after this game, so we almost had to one more to the total!

@@philbohne8473 Ah yes, that perm. Was a fad for about for a bit in the mid to late 70s but no one told Sutton it was over and he kept wearing it for years. I'm proud to say I did not give in to the temptation.

In 1981 I visited my native Long Island and they ran a TV commercial for radio station WINS and they asked this question on it: "Are the Dodgers moving back to Brooklyn?" In L.A. they did have a special Turn Back The Clock event where the current Dodgers wore Brooklyn uniforms for a game (about 2015)! Brooklyn has the Nets and the Islanders!

And look at the time. 2 hours. That is just baseball heaven right there. 2:15 to 2:30 is perfect for nine innings. With this new pitch clock was tested in the minors, this is where the games were ending up. All the same action in 45 minutes less time.

Vin was the finalist with Pat Summerall to get the play by play gig with Madden, the most desired spot in the business at that time. Pat won and it was the right move. Vin was not happy about it then, but it would not have worked. The Great man works alone. Vin Scully was put on this planet to tell us about baseball games while we listen to the radio. Even on TV, Vin's not the same. He's great, but you can tell the difference. Same with Ned Martin and Jack Buck. Both were good on TV, but out of this world great on the radio.
