1957 Chevy Vintage Air a/c install

Installing a GEN IV Vintage Air evaporator under the dash of a 1957 Chevrolet.

Spent the morning taking the heater box, blower, etc. from under the dash of my 1955 Nomad project I’m just getting started on. This car didn’t come from the factory with AC and since I never even ran the AC in my previous cars I’m not going to spend the money or time to put it in the Nomad. Roll down the windows and crank open the vent windows just like the old days!

So my system's pipes do not go thru the rectangle opening--it goes thru the round air vent to the right. I can't seem to "tetris" it thru the round hole and get the whole thing to go under the dash...it gets hung up no mater how I position it...any ideas how I can get it to go under without cutting the dash?

Do you have a finished photo including the vents you chose? Looks liek you were going to put vents in the dash for a cleaner look. Very Interested:)

Is there a reason you chose the center vent plenum system instead of the 4 vent plenum system? Trying to decide which way to go with my '55... Thanks!

benton hester - If I had it to do over, I would get the 4 vent plenum. It would have made things easier once I decided to go with a semi-custom console. That piece can be purchased separately from Vintage Air. Also, now that I think back, the center plenum was not in the exact center of the dash by about an inch or so, which would have bugged me.

No, I only have time to work on my own projects. Vintage Air may have a kit for your classic. Installing them is usually not too bad if your handy. Once installed, take it to a shop to have it leak tested and filled with Freon. Good luck.

Trucker tray I have a 57 the evaporator you installed is different from the what vintage air is offering.The hard lines are in a different location by the tunnel would you give me the part # of the evaporator thanks
