Real master in his natural habitat,, this is what I call repair. This master made all of the panels. I know lots of people think they can do it. But believe it or not. It's not as easy as this master showes. He made it look simple a d easy. This is one of the sign, you know you are dealing with the top of the line skills Great work.. good to see still people around to do the job right BRAVO SIR.

Beautiful job! This reminds me of when I did a similar restoration of my '62 190SL 50 years ago. There weren't any reproduction parts available then, so we had to scrounge all over West Germany to find factory parts left over when they stopped production. We didn't do it to the standards of this job, but the 190SL Club members liked it! I still miss that car, but it paid for a year of college when I sold it.

Great work, but won’t the investment in labour, parts and paint far exceed current market value of an early 190SL?
@prod_change_upАй бұрын
That’s not the point of this restoration. They’re not trying to “flip a house” with this car, they’re most likely doing this to challenge themselves and to treat the process like an art form. Alternatively, it could’ve been the request of a rich client (maybe this was the car of said client’s great-grandfather).
@Viscous_FlowАй бұрын
Car restorations like these are rarely investments, this car is a classic that is worth restoring to keep it alive. Money isn’t everything when it comes to cars, people are very passionate about these things.

Staggering amount of work. It appears some panels were available but masses of fabrication . I do wonder if the hours spent exceeded the true value of the car . A 300 SL has the value , l'm not certain an SL190 does. .......and l thought my "e"type was bad ! P.S lovely lead loading ,

I agree wow beautiful work! But...why? On a 190 SL? I could see if it was a 300SL, you must be 2 or 3 times underwater. Why start with such a rust bucket? Maybe a shop show case? Showing what is possible? Anyway, I hope that this car is fully enjoyed by whoever footed the bill!

I dunno, man... it seems like fabricating a car from scratch would be easier than fixing all that rust! How much of the original car do you actually have to use to be able to use the original VIN number and crash safety approval?
@allennelson69855 күн бұрын
1,000 hours just for the body work? At $125/hour, the labor alone would be $125,000. It's not clear if that included the paint job. But I assume it does. The purchase price of the car, the work that was done to the mechanics, interior and the convertible top, and the parts that needed to be replaced or restored must have cost another $100,000. Are these cars worth more than $225,000 once restored? I'd be surprised.
