Wow, my second car was a 1957 Pontiac Chieftain 4-door hard top. I loved that car. Then, the army came along and the Chieftain was sold.

Appreciate your service. You rocking something with a 440 now? I had a 70 Charger RT at 16 years old

@@samspace81 Had a 1970 Dodge Dart 440 drag car. That car is now a 650 hp 451 stroker, Indy heads and intake, Griner trans brake, Wilwood front disks, spooled Moser 60 rear and axles, Assassin traction, mini tubbed, fresh paint, runs mid 10's. (Yeah, I cracked open the check book!) Sadly, it pretty much just holds the trailer down in the garage. I would love to have 1970 340 Dart 4-speed driver! And you, a Charger at 16?? At 16, I had a valve-less '55 Pontiac rolling heap!

I had 2 of these, when I was 18. 1 was 2 door & 1 a 4 door. To be absolutely honest I can't remember if they were chieftains but both were 57s.

Some of these cars were still around in the late 1970s when I became old enough to drive. Honestly, they were horrible. Modern coach buses are more agile and fun to drive than these hot messes from the fifties were. There were a lot of reasons that people gravitated to smaller foreign cars. I'm sorry, but you know it's true.

They sure look good though ha I drive a 2006 E55 AMG Mercedes everyday and still love classic American cars. Its hard to beat the everyday power and handling. Thanks so much for following Samspace81 here on KZbin

Back in the day when " Detroit " was truly motor city, today detroit is a shithole, and Pontiac is a distant memory.

Detroit committed suicide. If these cars had not been slow, heavy, unreliable gas hogs, Americans would never have turned to foreign auto makers. In fact, it was in the 1950s when that trend started. By the early sixties, the handwriting was on the wall and Detroit refused to take heed. They thought the foreign car thing was just a fad. Like television. LOL.
