That came out really good. I think you could address the people that want you to restore it by starting a GoFundme, and let them donate. When it gets up to $25,000 send it out and have it restored, and they'll be happy. Of course we know that'll never happen because opinions are FREE, everything else costs.

Bingo!.. if anyone thinks a good paint job is cheap simply because they saw an ad for a budget paint shop that only charges $299,,, how bout you go online or stop by your local automotive paint store and get a price for a gallon of good paint. Or better yet, stop by a reputable paint shop and show them this video and ask how much they would charge to paint this car.

While I certainly appreciate a full restoration, what you have here is a nice honest old car, still showing all of the experience it’s accumulated over its 60 years. Once you restore a car, it can no longer tell its stories. So yeah, let it keep its character!

So you say you don't know what you are doing? Well, you know more now than before you tried doing something that you didn't know how to do! I have deep admiration for somebody who isn't afraid to just try something regardless of knowing how it will turn out, that is called the creative process and you, sir, are more of an artist than you give yourself credit for.

People at car shows are drawn to these because they seem obtainable to the average person. Many people at the shows don’t have a car of their own and this kind of car is something they see themselves able to start with. I like what you’re doing with it.

I was so thrilled to see you post this car .In 1970 this I found a car like this sitting under a pine tree. It became my first car I was 14 ,mine was red covered in pitch! It didn't run I paid 100 dollars for it they thought the rear end or tranny was out. Wheel bearing was froze up and it had a broken Ujoint. Mr. you do what you want too,it's your car ! Loved the video. And your attitude !

Nothing I like better at a car show than a ratty looking car with top notch mechanical components. That, and if the guy daily drives it. I love that you are showing how to have a nice good running classic without breaking the bank. I have a 67 Galaxie 390 4 door that was a green rust bucket. Im not much on the "patina" look personally so I rolled on rusty metal primer and flat black. Sanded it down and re shot it satin black. Its a work in progress. Main thing, have fun and keep rescuing these old cars. I also love that you dont limit yourself to Chevells, Novas and tri fives. They are nice.... but boring after a while.

Jonathan, you are correct in thinking a new paint job would open a can of worms. As to matching a patina my humble suggestion is to replicate the process rather than the result. You have the right idea in sanding down to colors underneath. Even slight denting is good if present on the rest of the car.

I like it. I had a 59 Fairlane 500 Galaxie in High School. On my dash it was padded like yours. I was looking one day and saw it was painted under the padding. I pulled the padding off which left the glue. I removed the glue with solvent. Then waxed the dash. Wow it was beautiful. That might be an option for you since replacement padded dash is so high. Wish I had pictures. Fun to watch.

Jonathan, she looks like a barn find thats been cleaned up a little. PERFECT! Get the front end down to somewhat level or a little rake and drive it. The spray bomb paint looks surprisingly good. I think there might be an artist hiding under that hat! If the clear doesn't make the door a better match, just do a blend with the rattle cans.Patina is never the same all over the car anyway.

Jon, If someone else wants to restore this car, they can. You're exposing what the car really is. I totally understand what you're doing with it. You're preserving it, while removing layers of previous cobbling. 59 is probably my second least favorite Ford (1960 Fords were just fugly with no redemption. lol)., but I'm liking your 59 more and more as you keep bringing her back to life. Well by the no., of comments which I ain't read yet, there is a lot of people who have an opinion of how what when where and why it should but I am just glad that you are sharing this with me and others cause we love anything you do. Getting that roll over out with your son this morning and then still making time to do a video plus this ain't easy or everyone would do it. Armchair referees may ruin what the rest of us love and that is sharing your daily lives of you and your's with us. I personally love this concept and have seen a few rat rods that were done in this manor. It is getting popular or those cars/trucks wouldn't be going home with trophies from the shows. It is easy on my eyes and wish I could still just work. I been seeing a doctor for about 3 years now trying to fix a broken back and neck and it just ain't promising. Keep on keeping on doing what you which makes us smile. Made my day so if it is just half as good for you then your ecstatic!! You work for your family and I get to watch, tnk. great video

So far, seven people have thumbs-downed this video. Sod them. What you're doing is fine. That's a great patina job. Not every classic has to be concourse. As long as the car has sound structure, safe steering and brakes and generally roadworthy, then the "shabby-chic" look works for many, me included. We're just glad to see an old survivor getting another chance. Sure would love that car. 👍

Very interesting Jonathan , and the roof looks MUCH better in white ! I never pictured this car restored to 'better than new' but I do think it would have been maybe possible to make it look just as if it had been a 'well loved member of a family ' , that is , pink paint redone , but NOT over shiny or perfect , pitted chrome proudly worn and cracked glass just part of the story . The patina look is definitely interesting but not for every one .Your car , your choice !
