As a hobby when I retired ..I bought close to 50 old outboards and refurbished them over a few years...I had 4 of these 1960 5.5 rudes..they are one of my favorites..they have a unique hum to them that is so sweet...I still have about 30 motors left to sell this summer...I sell them cheap to good homes..🐱..p.s. I wouldn't.t let this guy work on your stuff...lol.

I have an Evinrude fisherman I messed up the pull rope plastic gear when I got upset and tried to yank it like a chainsaw and I want to get it running so bad !, my uncle gave it to me as gift and it ran when he used it the last year but laid out by his shop got little seized up I soaked on blaster in it three days in plug hole and it freed up!!!! So all I need is to fix plastic start gear that jumps up to turn it over and new carburetor I think!! 😉😃don’t give up!!!! GREAT VIDEO I DONT KNOW WHERE TO POSITION HANDLE EITHER LOL 😂

All Cross flow one way piston will hit the head and not turn fully you have it correct some loopers not the same can be installed backwards.You got carb problems it still ran with the lower unit on. From what I can see mixture way off your trying to start it on start and very low throttle when not dialed in will do whats its doing. Needs to be dialed in properly for starters. Put speed tiller handle at full speed in neutral first off and not at start or below like your doing to start each time until dialed in.Those motors had a wide range of retarding the throttle to shut them off because of no electrical cutoff buttons also enhancing the out of carb.adjustment problem. Put carb settings at lowspeed at 1 1/4 and high at 1 turn and leave high alone and just adjust the low ...1/8th turns in till it wants to stall rpm should increase and then back it a 1/4. Let it warm up and do it again. Also check sync. marks on the magneto cam plate and make sure your synched to the marks with the carb opening up linkage. The Outboard Tinkerer62 has spoken ,LOLL! I mean reeds or fuel lines ,tank etc. could be a problem but process of elimination is in store here Good Luck!

@@BlackoutBilll21 Those motors will change DRASTICALLY with the right carb lean rich mixture adjustment. Remember just the low speed should be adjusted the high speed is more or less a fuel cutoff if too tight clockwise wont start also easily around 1 or 3/4 and leave it alone,LOL!. Should be dialed in on a boat or in a test tank with a test wheel...It actually sounded real nice when it ran dont give up on it!!
