This recording always seemed too quiet, so I did a bit of sound editing to make it easier to hear.

I love this, especially as it's live! It shows what a phenomenon she was!

I totally agree . All her recordings were ORGANIC and not the dreaded manipulated INORGANIC ( changing artists vocal qualities and dynamics ) we have now .

No, non e' dal vivo ma una simulazione per il disco del Fledermaus di Karajan e non e' Karajan che la dirige ma un direttore anonimo.
Arditi's IL BACIO is such a beautiful art song and this early Miss Sutherland rendition is utterly beautiful and sung so effortlessly. It's just AMAZING as with all things Dame Joan sang to great acclaim! Her florid singing is stupendous, no wonder the Venetians bestowed the title of LA STUPENDA upon her after she appeared at La Fenice in Handel's ALCINA in 1961, and she has been referred to as La Stupenda throughout the rest of her 40+ year career.

Imagine being in that audience. How lucky they were and we are lucky to have this recording. Sublime.

Fantástica. Esta gravação não é ao vivo. É uma gravação de estúdio. Os aplausos são inseridos. Brava!!!

Perfect!!! Well coordinated, very good lower notes, clear vowels, I really don’t know what happened to her in 1962 😢

This is from The Feldermaus, she did one aria at the Orlofsky party. Wonderful!!

Il Bacio is NOT from DIE FLEDERMAUS by STRAUSS - It is A SONG written by Arditi. It's not opera but a gorgeous art song. And every country has its own very special "art songs". In the DIE FLEDERMAUS party scene at Prince Orlofsky's an opera company can insert whatever it wishes from other composers but don't make the mistake thinking those pieces are from Fledermaus. They are not!

@@peterdevita6308 I think the poster was just saying that this was taken from a performance of Die Fledermaus, nothing more.

This is amazing singing and in some ways it doesn't sound like singing at all. Her voice was truly some type of unique instrument that it sounds like she is playing. It almost sounds like I'm listening to a science fiction movie with a singing alien, and I mean this in the best way possible. Once you hear the Sutherland "voice" at its best other voices always sound like something is missing. I just take her out of the equation when making comparisons. The only one FOR ME who almost falls in this category is Leontyne Price in her prime. There are amazing singers throughout history who have given me great joy as well, but this is just something I experience differently.
