JS flubs early in the piece (0:27), but the audience is more than willing to give her a second go at it. RB even tries to make light of the situation with a false start of his own.

Sage mir, Vogel im grünen Wald, Kuckuck, Kuckuck, Kuckuck! Sage mir, Vögelein, werd' ich wohl alt? Kuckuck, Kuckuck, Kuckuck! Kuckuck, Kuckuck, Kuckuck!

In reply to harry roldie: The sixties was the decade of BIG HAIR. This fact has been parodied by film director John Waters in his film "Hair Spray" as well as other films of his. (Don't watch them if you are squeamish.)

Joan was in a class by herself. One of the greatest sopranos ever. P.S.: I wonder how much that hair weighed. Talk about crowning glory!

I attended Sutherland’s concerts in places as varied as Buffalo and Brooklyn. And she ALWAYS made mistakes and had to start over again. Who cares? The public, including me, loved her even more for being down to earth.

She was obviously under a lot of pressure that night because she says "it's too much". Bonynge probably too demanding...

@@LaDivinaLover Actually, Bonynge was quite demanding of her, but he also knew she was a talent like no other and she said she sometimes was a little lazy and he kept her focused.

Ive always though joan to be very statuesque and beautiful. BUT. She looks a bit like a drag queen here. Her very square pink chiffon dress accentuating her broad shoulders and small chest, the heavy makeup and ENORMOUS BEJEWELED(?!) WIG. But that was the 60s I guess. And when you have such a voice looking draggish can be forgiven, especially since most of the time she looked wonderful

That's just what we need - an ignorant know-it-all-male belittling a woman for her looks even though the reason for her fame is her glorious voice and outstanding technique. Try looking up the terms "misogyny" and "mansplaining" and please refrain from commenting further until you've understood what they mean.
