I was born Dec 8th of 74. The 80s brought change like nobody has ever saw before, BUT I remember these days in the mid-late 70s. I remember smelling blocks of row homes cooking breakfast In Saturday-Sunday morning. I remember the games , times , smells , vibes (😊) of those times. Priceless 🫡💯❤️

Good Memories when Philadelphia was such a Diverse Melting Pot. My dad came from Puerto Rico in 1954, and got mom and all us kids there, once he got a job. We lived on Lawrence & Susquehanna in North Philadelphia. We were the only Hispanics in a predominantly Irish and Polish neighborhood. I remember Mrs. Kennedy, our Sunday School Teacher. She was an angel from heaven (I hope to see her again). The term that you could "leave your front door open" wasn't a cliché. You could really leave your doors open because people looked out for each other. Maybe it was because I was young and ignorant to the Social Issues of the time, but I have nothing but fond memories of our neighbors who gave us as immigrants love and support. They helped us transition to be good hard working Americans

The first scene is Lancaster Avenue going up towards 41st Street (NE corner). The building at the NW corner has been a Chinese Takeout restaurant for going on four decades. Second scene is 52nd Street, going towards Chestnut from Market, well before the first West Market Street El station renovations. Third scene, the old West Philly High School at 48th & Walnut Streets, now an apartment building, while the new West Philly High is at 49th & Chestnut Streets. Fourth scene, South Street between a little before 9th Street & 10th, with the old Krass Brothers at 937 South Street, before they move to a newer building at 901 in the 1980's. Both buildings are now gone, with the Whole Foods occupying most of the North side of South Street.

Thanks for the info. It's crazy to know this is my exact neighborhood and it's changed so much I barely recognize it. And I used to live at 41st and Lancaster: Completely unrecognizable except for the Chinese takeout building.

Yeah, was 20 years old when they demolished it, in 1985, never spent any real time there but during the 1980s my girl later wife Lisa Thomas and I would hang out on 52nd street. During the 1970s, I lived around the corner from the Uptown and Pop (my step-dad) would take me to the uptown theater. I saw Foxy Brown, Sweet Back, Candy Tangerine, Mandingo, Enter the Dragon and Shaft. Now almost 56 I miss my parents: RIP Clifford prater (Pop) and Sis. Claudia Scretching (Mom) we had a loving family and good times.

I worked for Ben & Harry Krass after I graduated High School at their South Street stores, back in 1978. Ben ran the Men's store, and his brother Harry worked across the street at the Youth and Children store. Remember his antics? If you don't buy a suit from Krass Brothers you're a QUACK. And someone would chase him with a Rubber Duck or something. The commercials were corny but entertaining.

0:42 is the corner of 52nd and Chestnut looking south. The building on the right (SW corner) is still there, it's an H&R Block on the ground floor, the York building next door also stands but a lot of the great architectural details are currently covered by a wood sign.

Architecture wise a lot of it looks the same, but the main differences besides the car styles, road styles, and fashion styles, would be the fact that there are far more shuttered store fronts these days. And a lot more litter.
