The rotary mixer was used in place of a whisk. No cook in my family had a whisk. I was influenced by Julia Child in the 60s and was the first one in my family to use one. They did have electric mixers. I still have my blue one that Grandma received from a bank in the 50s. I was married in 78, and the blue hand mixer is still going! I've burnt thru 2 kitchen aid stand mixers in that time...lol they don't make them like they used to♡

I have both the quart dish & the cookbook! The cookbook was my Mom's, she got it when she & Dad got married in 1965. I've got to look through all her cookbooks that I have. She passed in July so this year has been hard & I've not been looking forward to the holidays. I think cooking from her books will help me remember all the time we spent cooking together. I love your videos, they remind me of so many happy times with family.

I love this so much. My bff's folks passed away over the last several years, I loved them so much, they were so classic. The point being, this early/mid sixties was when they grew their family, etc. I'll miss them forever, they were ALWAYS kind and supportive towards me. I love to become inspired by recipes. Throw times in there, that's even better. ❤❤❤🌻❤

I was at a antique store last week, and found this exact cookbook, and purchased it. It had an original price sticker on it-$1.95! I bought it because I do have problems making way too much (I had three boys). I'm really enjoying it.
@cynthiamurphy3669Сағат бұрын
Sounds like you got a good deal. I'm looking on Abebooks online, and they show 14 results of the 1964 edition. Some gal in South Dakota says hers is like new and wants $55 with free shipping; the cheapest says $10 including shipping but in poor condition.
@susanmcroberts88773 минут бұрын
@@cynthiamurphy3669 I'm sorry, the tag that said 1.95 was original-so it was 1.95 in 1964. I paid 15.00 for it. Sorry for the confusion.

Everything looked delicious! Tip for the custard cups; put a kitchen towel into the pan, top with the custard cups and then add your water. The towel will keep the cups from sliding around. I have one of those princess bowls, too and love it because it has the pour spouts.

I save old spice jars for making my own spice blends or when I get something like your paprika that should, but doesn't, have a shaker top! It's funny, I saw an electric tray for sale today on QVC. I love how you have to clarify that you know Betty Crocker isn't real because there's always that person out there itching to type, "Actually ..." @27:33 I didn't remember until this point in your vid my mom made this all the time, only in a 13x9 pan and she put shredded cheese on top. I don't think we had a name for it, but it conjures memories of our freezing cold house in the winter when the kitchen at supper time felt so warm.

Hello, per the pumpkin custard: melt the butter and mix it with the egg yolk before you put everything else in the bowl. The yolk will help to emulsify the butter into the mixture giving it a better mouthfeel and taste. I enjoy your channel. I love old cookbooks, too! Have a great day. Happy cooking!

I just recently found your videos (Thank you KZbin Algorithm for suggesting this channel!) and I have really enjoyed watching your videos. There is just something super comforting about how you present things and cookbook chats at the end. I look forward to dive more into your video back catalog. You touched on it a bit in this video about how you also collect vintage dishes/cookware.. I would love a video going thru your collection! Maybe going over how a certain pattern speaks to you or what it means to you but also just in general any history you have learned from collecting everything that you have. I love that you not only collect these pieces but you also continue to USE them because that is what they are meant for. Please keep doing what you are doing because you are absolutely great! Thanks from a new fan!

What a great way to use your leftover pumpkin and hamburger. As my dad used to say: I love it when a plan comes together. I really like the different 'cooking for two' recipes and have several books that are only those kind. Being single, these ones with 6-8 servings put me off - even if I know I like it - because that is just a lot of leftovers! Thanks for these ideas. The pumpkin custard sounds great. Might try it this holiday season in those mini-graham cracker crusts with whipped topping.

Boiled dressing used to be a way to make a form of mayonnaise that didn't fail and wasn't out of a jar. It would have been great for a newlywed, so she didn't have to "resort" to jarred mayonnaise on her coleslaw, lol. 😅 You can always throw an egg and a little flour in the leftover mashed potatoes and make potato pancakes. This recipe reminds me of cottage pie. I use preshredded cabbage mix, too, from Aldi. You can't beat that compared to having to find a small head of cabbage, core it, clean it, then shred it. I am not a pumpkin pie fan, but that dessert looks tasty. Precisely! It's a book for 60s newlyweds, mostly. I was surprised to see the "So You're Back to Two" chapter. My wedding china was Blue Onion by Corelle the first time. Over the years, it's been catch as catch can. Recently, I'm doing Corelle in a couple plates of this, a couple bowls of that. Very good video!!! Thanks so much. See you next week.

My recipe is the whole thing 1lb ground beef, onion -measure with your heart, whole can of green beans, whole can of soup, salt and pepper (no msg in it). Mashed spuds, sprinkle some cheese. Even though it's just me, I love the leftovers for lunch or dinner.

I love these classic retro comfort food recipes! Nice to see reasonable portions for one person. One of the reasons why I don't cook much anymore is because I'm single (divorced), cooking the way that I used to, always all natural, from scratch, seems too much for one and I don't really like freezing home prepped meals.

Love your Franciscan Starburst pattern dinner plate. Back in the 90s my brother in California started collecting that pattern. He had several pieces, but it was very expensive in Southern California. A girl I worked with (we’ll call her Wanda) got married and her new mother-in-law gave her an entire service of Starburst which had been hers in the 60s. Wanda did not need or want the dishes so she sold them to me very cheaply. I in turn shipped them to my brother a few at a time. The whole set is now worth thousands of dollars!

I grew up with hamburger pie but we called it green bean casserole. I made it for my kids and it's still one of their faves too. We make it basically the same but we cover the top with cheddar cheese before baking, which takes it over the top.
