All credits for this video must go to Michael Clemens of B&R Videos who kindly gave me permission to use various clips of Worcester Shed and Shrub Hill Station in the 1960s filmed by his late father Jim Clemens who did a superb job filming the clips shown.
Any DVD by Jim Clemens is well worth adding to anyones collection of railway videos. Enjoy these superb steam scenes of days gone by at Worcester.

Great reminder of happy hours spent at Shrub Hill and Railway Walk in the late '50s and early '60s.

I used to live in Worcestershire until 2005, and we moved to Swindon. I regularly visit what was the GWR works, it’s only a 5-10 min drive away. I grew up being taken to watch steam trains at the Severn Valley Railway, dad would take us to his favourite viewing spots. He always had a copy of the time table in his camera bag and in his wallet. The smell of steam trains takes me back to those moments.

Brilliant! One of my first primary school outings was from Malvern Link to Worcester Shrub Hill in 1966 or 1967. I remember being enthralled by the whole thing even though we only travelled in a boring old DMU. The buffet was the highlight. It felt so grown up ordering a coffee. Must have cost around 2/- ... a king's ransom for a six year old.

This is so evocative of days spent trainspotting on Shrub Hill station in the early 60s. The variety of locos shown in the film tallies with my recollections...right down to the day a Southern Pacific came through on a special. Living in Malvern Link it was a short trip to get there. The Cathedrals Express passed by my bedroom window every evening. Many thanks indeed for putting this up...a real gem.

In the early 1990s I paid a visit to Michael who was then living near Pershore - he showed me some of his father's slides of the Honeybourne Line, taken in the late 1950s.

What nostalgic memories of my own shed bashing days. And how lucky were those Worcester trainspotters from that high vantage point. No dull moments waiting for through trains what with the shed movements going on. And I thought I was lucky to live alongside the Snow Hill to Wolverhampton low level line .Perhaps I was as the Kings were passing every hour.

Cheers Roy, It's nice to know that this video bought back some fond and happy memories for you. You mention that you used to live alongside the former GWR mainline between W-ton Low Level and B-ham Snow Hill. There is a video on my channel called Snow Hill to Shrewsbury that may interest you as it shows this former mainline during the 60s. This particular video is 3 of 3 as I tried to recreate the route of the Cambrian Coast Express during my firing days at Stafford Road and Oxley Sheds. Many thanks for taking the time to view and comment, much appreciated. Regards...Bill

What a wonderful record of steam at Worcester Bill, and great to see so many GW locos on home territory and with a few Jubilees and the Ex GCR ROD 2-8-0 amongst the many others. Although the film standard isn't what we would expect today, the sound of the Castles and Crab, Black 5 was excellent and very well recorded. Despite this, the excellent and knowledgeable commentary more than made up for any other shortcomings! Thanks for sharing this video Bill, and a huge pat on the back to the son of the original recorder. Best wishes, Ken

Cheers Ken, thanks for looking/commenting, we are lucky today in that we have HD cameras, I think Jim Clemens did a marvellous job of recording these wonderful scenes 50 odd years ago, with what would have been then a top of the range camera, he can only be commended for all the great work he did then, so that we can now enjoy such scenes as these And I think Michael has done a superb job with his informative commentary throughout the video, glad you enjoyed watching...Bill

I have a memory of an immaculate small prairie tank taking us from Shrewsbury Platform 2 towards Aberystwyth around mid-afternoon. I was very disappointed it wasn't a Manor or Standard 4MT, but looking back it must have been about the last time small prairies were used on the Cambrian system. Any chance it was 4555? (I can['t remember it it went all the way through to Aberystwyth but I think it unlikely.) I guess I was lucky.

Great to see back in those day we had none of the utter bullshit of painting preserved GWR locos up in the crappy BR scheme. That was before the Grisers took-over. Fantastic to see a GWR loco resplendent in the correct scheme.
