The tv advertisement of the 1961 plymouth. I also own a 1961 Plymouth but mine is the top of the line model . My dad and I just got finished restoring a 1961 plymouth fury, It was a 5 1/2 year project but the hard work shows and it paid off . I took it to a mopar show this past July . My competition was a 1956 plymouth belvedere but 1 of these forward look mopars came home with a 1st place trophy

As a kid I was a Plymouth fan. Family cars had been all Plymouths, first a ‘47, then a ‘50, after that a ‘58. In late 1960 I remember seeing the ‘61 Plymouth for the first time on tv , very disappointed with the styling. It was a very odd duck.

What's really surprising here is that back in 1961 the Detroit Tigers allowed Plymouth to show a couple of heavy full sized cars on their nicely mowed natural grass field. These cars are a couple of the same models that were my grandfather's last two new cars in his lifetime. A couple of years after this commercial was filmed, he bought a 1963 Plymouth two door coupe (probably the bargain priced Savoy, but they were mid sized between 1962 and 1964). Later on in 1971 he bought a Plymouth Satellite two door coupe with the 225 cubic inch slant six cylinder engine, and that was his last car, because he died in 1984. Surprisingly, the Satellite was also considered mid sized, even though it was on the large side for an intermediate Chrysler B body car.

My ex had a 1973 New Yorker, While I had a 1971 Buick Electra 225, And, I will say: My Buick would "smoke" the NY"er on the "jump",( in a drag" BUT That Big 'Ol Chrysler would "hang" in the "twisties' AS FAR AS THE COMPETION GOES: The Buick for the ride, The Chrysler for the drive! Not that either weeere MEANT for that, But HELL, we HAD to TRY, LOL (this was 1985, lol)
