@@scienceaddict77 very much, just finished putting back together. Loved your unedited videos..

@@mrojas73 thanks! I do believe it was in fact edited, but mainly to make it more concise and take out a bunch of "uh & ums". I'm looking forward to getting a lot more of my material out but my new computer for editing has been sitting in China for a week, and I ordered it back in December 🤦♂️

When putting the diaphragm back onto the body, and fitting the valve body on the top of it, it is a good idea to hold the pump body by the mounting flange in a vice, that way you can put the diaphragm half way through it's stroke, while holding it at that point tighten the 6 screws in an ordered way, if you don't re-assemble it that way you run the very real risk of tearing the diaphragm when the pump operates, cheers Dennis

+staffy109 thanks for the warning! Fingers crossed I got it right. I would think having it extended all the way would lower the chance of it tearing, as there would be more diaphragm in the housing than if it were flush with the screws, unless I have it backwards where on the pull stroke, it pulls below the diaphragm flange level. I don't remember it doing that, but I'll keep an eye open.

It was just something that I was told to do whenever attending that job, also a good idea to check the operation/integrity of the pump by attaching a short hose to the pump and into a can of fuel to see if it actually works before re-fitting to the engine, can save you a lot of hasle cheers Dennis

I took my fuel pump apart recently and there is a small hole below the diaphram that would let petrol drain out of the diaphram leaks. Therefore, I think the petrol smell may not be coming from a faulty fuel pump.

I think you're right, it was probably in actuality from blowby, but I didn't know that at the time.

did it solve your petrol in oil problem?

Who sold that particular fuiel pump rebuild kit? I recently purchased one in the UK and it didn't fit properly.

Have you got a Haynes Manual? If not, worth getting - Amazon has it and really helps with renovating your SII

+John Stokes got the full service manual, as well as the green Bible, what I don't have is the parts catalog.

How do you get the diaphragm back in the pump body? Mine keeps popping out. I take it the two widgets on the front of the body has something to do with it.

The stem has slots in the sides, and those retain it when it's being assembled. You need to engage it in the actuating forks by pressing it down then rotating it 90°

Why not buy a new one Britparts are the like. They are pretty cheap no?
@scienceaddict774 жыл бұрын
Britpart has a reputation as "shitpart" plus i'd rather rebuild an original part than replace.
