I bought a tan 1962 4door Belair for $1.00 back in 1981, my old neighbor passed away and his son asked me if I wanted to buy his car. I said "how much" he said one dollar. SOLD! The son was an executive for Chevrolet and didn't want the car.... it had less than 60K on it and a back seat that looked brand new. It had the 283 with the 2speed automatic trans. Shifter on the steering column and a am radio. Drove that car for many years.... thanks again Mr. Sur!

Hello, Jay I'm a fellow MA guy who lives in Colorado. A car accident shut me down in 2010, but I'm not out. I know that your good opinion of classic Detroit sheet metal stops at around '65 - '66, but I have a dream car - a '67 Impala SS Coupe, with a 427 w/aftermarket fuel injection, and a 6-speed Tremec manual. My father brought one home from work when I was a kid, and he scared my mother senseless with it. He had just been promoted to General Manager at his job in Boston back in '66, and from '66 on, he got a brand-new company car every year. The car was a bluish color, with a white roof. It was a 4-speed, and my mother said no - get a station wagon. Dad didn't let on, but he seemed to be bummed out. After 3 months, he came home with a dog-do colored Chevy station wagon. 327, automatic, family hauler. The coke bottle body on the Impala SS, a la Camaro, was (and still is) beautiful to me. I'll never be able to afford one now, but I can always dream. I enjoy your KZbin channel, and if you finished reading this entry - thanks. LW

Much thanks Ralph Holguin for sharing your amazing car and labor of love with us, and also Jay Leno for his amazing knowledge he brings to the table and the teriffic questions that brought this masterpiece to life. He is right about the memories that this car evokes in those of us that knew them fron the neighborhood and saw them daily on the road. I surely would have loved to see the smile on Jays face as he drove this beauty and would have loved also to hear it purring. Great show !!!

I don't know if you are reading the comment section Mr. Leno (I assume you have a lot of other things to do), but thank you for your love of cars. In France, cars are a little bit persona non grata (in french we say "litote", but I think the word in english is "understatement"), but in my opinion, a good isomorphism to good life is having the chance to ride good cars (regardless their age). I ride a little DS3 Performance, which is a child of Citroën and Peugeot. Is is not a well done car, but the chassis and the engine are just marvelous.

Why do I read the comments :( ? This is a beautiful build with hundred of hours of work put into it but still not good enough for the internet. Love the car, disappointed we weren't able to see it on the road.

Welcome to the 21st Century. You can always go down "Memory Lane" in a junkyard. I went and bought a spare rim for one of my Mustangs the other day, the person's neighborhood had an original El Camino that looks like it hasn't run in years sitting in the driveway. Sounds like you'd love it.

Beautiful auto. If, and I mean if I was forced to criticize it, I would have had the exact same sculpture of the interior, with the only difference being the color. I love the work, artistry and innovation of this auto. That is humbling to admit since I feel that the 64' GTO is the most iconic auto EVER produced! I just appreciate this builder, BTW, my first job was a detailer/lotboy at Ash GMC on 96th and Pacific Ave, Tacoma WA!

On one of Jay's video, while driving a 1960's era 442, Jay bottomed out the car and scratched the headers. After they got back to Jay's garage he put the car on the lift and you could clearly see the headers had been scraped. But who's to say those headers hadn't been previously scraped a million times before Jay ever drove the car? So now I've noticed before driving a vehicle, Jay puts the car on the lift, effectively documenting any damage before Jay drives it. Is it a coincident the car goes on the lift before the drive?

I remember Hayden Profitt(sp?) racing a '62 bubble with a "409". Story was that he had bored the right bank something like .030 over and left the left bank stock. The reason was that the right side had the air conditioning compressor along with all the plumbing. When the NHRA did a tear down they always did the left bank only. Probably an urban legend, but a good one. :-)

The video was re-uploaded because the 90ies called and wanted their car back. The issue was solved when Jay Leno promised to never feature a car with an all red leather interior ever again. Not to mention a red on red on red on red car. The uneven headlights and weird front grill gaps and lines was NOT the reason why they re-uploaded this rush job.

To all the people posting negative comments, Have any of you ever built a car? Have any of you spent thousands of hours designing something then turning it into reality? Have any of you prepared and painted a car to this level of detail and finish? Have any of you thought how you would feel if someone posted your type of comments about something you had put so much of your heart and soul into, You should be ashamed of your selves, maybe you should post images of the amazing cars you have all built for the rest of the world to comment on.
