The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.

This quality is so clear. Years of hearing messed up footage of old races. Love it.

In retrospect, that was a blockbuster edition of ABC's Wide World of Sports, having both the Open Championship, which that year (1962), was won by Arnold Palmer, as well as the July race at Daytona, which was probably the third or fourth-biggest race on the NASCAR circuit back then, on the same broadcast.

I was friends with Fireball's sister Jo Anne before she passed away on July 18, 2022. I interviewed her in depth about her brother... She called him Bubby... It was a movie project we were working on with Rory Karpf. The stories I heard were rather 'mind-blowing.'

his 'ironic' name was given to him by his baseball teamates because of his accurate, fast pitches.

@@OBVideos I was watching older NASCAR videos and realized that his moniker 'Fireball' was before his fiery crash. so i checked wikipedia for Edward Glenn Roberts Jr. Your channel has some terrific vintage NASCAR videos.

Imagine how amazing it would be if we could enhance this with color like the WWII documentary. Any takers? 😁

🏳️🌈📺📼🏎️🧰🛠️🔧🪛🎙️🏆🏁💡🧢📻🎤📷📰📹📱💎 Boy they race at Daytona International Speedway on July 4th 1962 during my dad coming to the world. Man they race every 4th of July events on that day whenever on weekdays or on weekends back then. Like I didn't know they race on 4th of July at Daytona International Speedway. But hey this is best one ever & how cool is that he did using marker to show race track on the map to let fans know about on ABC from Bob Flemming on booth & Chris Economaki on pit reporter. One thing how cool using airplane to aero view. Thankfully it was black and white film 📽️ back then till they put colors.

Soooo many races where BOBBY JOHNS ran up front. I wish I knew more about him, don’t understand why he didn’t get a top factory ride.
