The 1962 NFL champion Packers were led offensively by QB Bart Starr, RBs Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor, TE Ron Kramer along with OL Forrest Gregg, Jerry Kramer and Jim Ringo. Defensive standouts were DE Willie Davis, DT Henry Jordan, LBs Ray Nitschke and Bill Forrestert as well as DBs Herb Adderley and Willie Wood. The 1962 Packers almost had a perfect season. The Pack beat Detroit 9-7 in a key game at New City Stadium, but on Thanksgiving Day the Lions handed Green Bay a 26-14 loss at Tiger Stadium. Bart Starr was sacked 12 times for 110 yards in losses.

I think I read about that Lions game that Alex Karras let QB Plum have it after the game because Plum threw the late interception which set up the Packers winning field goal.

I think that the defensive coach for Detroit Lions was Don Shula!

The Lions felt that the Pack got lucky in the first game (they did) and were really pointing toward that rematch. They killed GB on Thanksgiving, for sure.

...."Packers panning for points....." still a few of those alliterative phrases being used, but not nearly as much as 5 or 10 years prior to this. In a few more years, the whole face of football videos would transform. This is one of the last of the old, classic football highlight videos.

Many consider the '62 Packers one of, if not the, most domiant of all time. 5 HOF on defense. Gave up 10.8 ppg. The Packers' +267 point differential (points scored vs. points against) in 1962 is the best total of any NFL team in the 1960s. Fun fact: The Pack drafted Buck Buchanan in the 17th round in the 62 draft. Thank you for posting!

I noticed there wasn't a lot of hoopla when scoring a touchdown, when making a first down, a lot less unsportsmanlike conduct on display by the players. I wonder why they were not acting like the animals I see today?

You're correct about all the points you make. The negative flip side of this era of NFL was the blatant spearing, piling on, late hits and head shots to the QBs that went on.

Can you imagine playing for a team that a mere 4 years earlier was by far the worst team and is now by far the best ever team ever in NFL history? It's called Lombardi Trophy for a reason. Vincent T Lombardi was a victim of racism throughout his career. When he finally got his chance? He did EVERYTHING he could to erase racism in the NFL. Vincent T Lombardi is by far the greatest coach the NFL has ever experienced. And he was a PACKER. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE GREEN BAY PACKERS BECAUSE WE ARE A LITTLE CITY KICKING ASS. AND? His name was Jim Leaming. He did these before NFL FILMS. Worked out of Philadelphia from 1954-71. Passed away around 1991.

Why does every U.S. sporting comp call their winners World Champions? Obviously the NFL champs are the best, particularly as nobody else plays the friggin sport. But no other teams in the comp. Americans might reflect on how this sounds arrogant, dumb and insular to everyone else.

Because they are World Champions. There was no other football team better. Just the same as , for example, champions of the big Go tournamemts in China and Korea are called World Champion.

Divided team? No. There were a few players, like Jimmy Taylor, who were not overly popular on the team. But they became like family. Lombardi united them, which is different than “kept them together”
