As one that has much experience rebuilding salvaged UH-12E's from the ground up and flying in them of test flights I really enjoyed this. It is hard to beat the sound of that IO540 with the doors off in the Summer time.

The UH-12 is an honest helicopter and still one of the best ag ships around. I loved flying them.

Great video always good to see a Hiller flying sounds like that one has a noisy clutch or bearings until more engine power is applied, also great to see The Hiller Aircraft Company starting up again,🙂

Unless I missed it this pilot did not complete the pre take off checks before lift off. No mag check no needle split. I apologize in advance if I’m wrong. I’ve got a 12E myself they’re great helicopters but finding parts is nearly impossible.

Back in the day the next doors son was killed in a Hiller a real good guy in the military. Flying near the Golden Gate bridge his tail rotor came apart they were at 2 thousand feet fell to the ground him and his friend were killed. We had a small park near the house, and they had a memorial set up for Terri D. He was like a big brother to me.

Trust me, All hiller helicopters starters sound like that and it is totally fine. Just how Recip Engines work.

Everyone says the cost to run these per hour is very expensive. So with a well rebuilt UH12. What is the operating cost per hour? It’s so hard to find a simple answer to these online. I’ve tried.

Im not from the US but here in Switzerland the cost of a robinson r22 is around 9 bucks a minute an r44 is around 15 bucks a minute. bigger helis like the h130 b4 cost around 36 bucks a minute. Idk about this one obviously but maybe that gives you sort of a grasp. nvm I just saw your pfp my comment is probably unnecessary. I thought you were new to this. Sorry.

Way to much cranking, killing the starter and batteries, should be another way to bring the oil pressure up.

My old man was a mstr. flight test mechanic for many years at the factory. He always said use an airplane if possible as helicopters are trying to beat themselves to pieces.
