Doing a little homework at the Tush Mahal and working on refinishing a set of old Alloy Rims that came of my old vintage racer 1960 Triumph TR3A.
The 1962 TR4 Project will get the newly refinished rims shod with some slightly used Vredestein Sprint Tires courtesy of the Carburetor Dr. Alan Vinegar.
Stay tuned for regular project updates on the Rusty Beauties Channel as well. Here is the most recent video on the Overdrive recently fitted to the car. • Will the Overdrive wor...

Enjoyed this video . Have done something similar & found it easier to do the polishing while the wheel is mounted on the raised car , allowing me to turn the wheel wherever I needed it .

Lots of work and the wheel looks nice. I know you are a little disappointed but you learn and so do we. Painting is really hard if you want perfection. You are always your toughest critic.

I love the unmasking stage. One thing make sure you remove the paint where the lug nuts go before fitting them!

They look great. They remind me a bit of BWA wheel from the same era!

Your "homework" projects like the wheels, dash and gauge restoration, etc really keep the Rust-oration moving at a fast pace. Great video.

That looks perfectly suitable for the TR4, all things considered. Good job cleaning up those rims, David. Thanks for another helpful video.

Not nice to tease me with the TR3 in the opening scene, lol. Wheels turned out really nice. Curious to see how they look on the 4.

Sorry 😎 update on the TR3A for you though…I did receive my interior kit and seat kit so I’m looking to get those in the car eventually!

Nice work Dave, I hope on the other three maybe scotch bright the wheel centre first before polishing and masking up, which should save you some time and spoiling your accurate masking before painting.

From what I remember of M.A.G. Wheels, they are probably Magnesium, not Aluminum. Try taking some of the scrapings and see if you can make it flare!

Definitely Aluminum Tim.

Great job David.. What an improvement.. Taking them to a wheel referb shop would have put a fair dent in your budget and could you have really noticed the difference from what you achieved ?

Yup they look excellent to me. They should work well on the car. 1000% better than when you started.

Looks great! Had you any other thoughts about how to restore the rim that you wound up rejecting?

Didn’t reject any of them. Not sure what you are referencing? Cheers, Tush

So is the TR4 donating its steel wheels and hubcaps to the TR3 project ? Did you laquer the polished alloy parts of the wheels or just the black centres ?

Hi John, I have a set of painted 60 spoke wires for the TR3A. I only clear coated the black part of the rims.

@@cheftush I have aluminum wheels on my pickup truck, I do not think I will spend that much time, per wheel to clean them up like that, even if they would fit my TR6. Too many other things to do.

I’m just curious. What was wrong with the old rear drums?

Stress crack going through one of the two mounting screw locations. Could have probably used them but I prefer to go new.

Well for me the finish on the rim fits the car perfect . If it was a flawless paint job it would not of been such a good match for the car .

Agreed Terry. Normally, I’d sand them down again but I’m not going to bother for this project. They have some imperfections just like the car they are going on…

Have you ever tried liquid mask for things like those spokes? Most of it is for glass, but you can find some for metal. I have never tried it, just wondering if I should.
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried it. It is pretty tedious to have to tape that’s for sure! Pistons worked great if you haven’t watched the OD video. Thanks Again.

Thought about it but I think I like them aluminum. I can always paint them black if I change my mind….that will be pretty easy.

Are these Porsche wheels ? 🤔
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
They were fitted to some Porsche, Datsun, MG, Triumph but probably mostly on the Reliant Scimitar. They were known as the GT MK1 wheel or the Princess Ann Wheel.

I’m glad you did. I debated writing this for that reason, but I figured someone might get a laugh out of it. Being a child of the nineties, makes my humor probably a little out of the norm compared to your normal viewers’ experience.
