This car is looking better and better! I thought I read, some years ago, that you should only use Castrol LMA brake fluid, as brake cylinders, disc calipers and master cylinder uses natural rubber seals.
@cheftush
@cheftush Жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, yes…apparently, if you put DOT5 in your new components, you immediately void the warranty….having said that, I’ve run DOT5 for over 15 years now in both my clutch and brake systems and have never had an issue.
@jimconklin8040

Ok, thanks for that info. I really did not want to go through the agony of replacing master cylinders, and bleeding all of the fluid out. I do keep a supply of the Castrol on hand, but I never drive my (wife's) TR6. Mine is under long term construction. Keep up the good work on the '62 TR4!

@@pda49184 yes, I think so. Not sure if you noticed, but the TR6 tank we installed doesn’t have a vent/overflow where as the TR4 did. So, we might have issues without it.

@@cheftush No, I didn't notice the missing vent David.. Is it possible you don't need a vent ? With the price of fuel these days the petrol isn't in there long enough to cause an issue 😅.. Joking aside, How did the vent system work on the TR-6 ?
@cheftush

@@pda49184 i think the cap is vented on the early TR6…on the later 6 ( like my 73) there is a vent that runs a line all the way up to the front of the car where there is a carbon canister.

So these are 185/70/15 Ron. This car just sits up a bit too high for my tastes but I can live with it. I’m thinking to buy 195/65/15 as there is much more choice of tires in that size. There is only a 5mm difference in circumference between the two sizes.

I'd say 185/70 15 should be the ideal modern replacement for the standard 165 15s... wider would not suit the TR4. Those wheels would look best on the TR250 which had black and chrome Rostyle wheel covers from new ..

@@not-fishing4730 on the triumph, if someone wants to get in, there are three snaps that they can lift anyway to gain access…in the Alfa, if they really want in they have less of an option..I’d rather leave my doors open then have them cut the convertible top.

Hello Chef, I was wondering the same as wtbm - why not use nicopp for the fuel line and bend it in place ? And did you consider air hooters ? the full Kernel Bogie likely wouldn't fit but Princess Auto often has 2 trumpet for a very reasonable price. Not in red, though, which seems to be the official colour for this project. really enjoying this series. John in Manitoba.

You could use the copper nickel in this location as well…I had already ordered the stainless before I really though about it too much. To be honest with you, I though the line was fairly straight with less bends then there actually turned out to be.

....Who is "Dr. Carburetor" ? ......I sent mine to a guy in Pueblo, Arizona to rebuild and re-bush the throttle shafts. He supposedly had 35 years experience at that time. They came back to me butchered so bad the pistons were jammed in the suction chambers and a fellow in England sent me two NOS suction chambers to make them serviceable...The butterflies were so out of whack it wouldn't idle below 1850rpm and I had to sand the bore to have the butterfly close and give me about 800rpm, I still have to sand the bore on the rear carb so it closes and I can get the idle down further, then re-balance them...There are hairline cracks at the throttle shafts (in the bore) where he drove the bushings in , like he used a large press or vice to do the job.....Seems no matter how much research you do, you can still get screwed....THEN, I find out an acquaintance in my neighbourhood is an English car mechanic and would've done the job for me, as he still has all the equipment (He has an all original 1936 Talbot)......Sometimes it doesn't pay to even get up, lol ..........................John (west coast,Can.)

@@cheftush Thanks, ...my bad experience is history now,....but it's good to know in case I meet someone else looking to have their SU cards serviced/restored.....I had already rebuilt mine and was simply concerned with throttle shaft wear, and look where I ended up , lol .......I've been told there's a Volvo enthusiast in Victoria, B.C that specializes in SU's...I guess there's a bigger market for that type of work now-a-days......I noticed that the fuel pump on your TR4 seems to sit on a 'boss' and not flat against the block .... Or am I seeing it wrong ? ....@ 21:43 ( maybe my mind is farther gone than I thought , lol )
