Maybe the neutral safety switch needs to be adjusted , push up on the trans selector when it's in park or put it in neutral .

If that NSS is bad, the back up lights wouldn't work either. It's located on the bottom of the steering column under the dash.

You could have regulator problems. Clean the contact points on the relays .

I have a 65, almost the same color. It has the "Flintstone" floors in it right now. The complete floor pans are outrageous now. Even the trunk floor pans are ridiculous as well. Are you planning on swapping out the V6 for a V8?

Yeah I have a 1964 289 that I'm gonna start rebuilding for it, right now I just wanna cruise it though, it's a fun car to drive. Doing an alternator swap as I type this

@@crossthreadgarage Well, mine needs a TON of work. I'd be embarrassed to show it now. Mine is a 2 door post sedan. Wish I had a Sprint roof to put on it. Maybe I can find one in decent shape somewhere one of these days. My plans are dropping a 302 in it and a world class T5 I have. Lots of metal work to be done before she hits the road. Good thing is, here in Georgia, we don't have vehicle inspections!
