In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 1963 Ford Thunderbird Sport Roadster. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

If those were factory wire wheels why the fender skirts? And aftermarket AC.
@daleandrews9356
@daleandrews9356 5 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, go easy on the Continental Kit. After all, it IS a factory correct item, unlike the cheap steering wheel cover and chrome exhaust tips, both of which I respectfully critiqued earlier. If it doesn't work for you, just remove it. Apparently, back at the design room in Detroit, they thought it would be a nice(and expen$ive, I suspect) OPTION. And from the looks of these comments, it doesn't look like it's going over very big with the commenters. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal as long as it's not an aftermarket item and therefore factory correct.
@MostlyBuicks
@MostlyBuicks 4 жыл бұрын
@@daleandrews9356 I do not think the continental kit is factory. It was probably a dealer option, as were the kits on 1955 and 1957 'Birds. The ONLY year it was factory was 1956. But one could get a dealer kit for any year up through 1966.

I agree tho. That's a beautiful sporty roadster and to be dragging around a bid ole tire on the back bumper looks gaudy. In the 1950s it looked good because the cars were shorter in length but not after they got longer.

Beautiful Video and i may have missed when someone said this so forgive me if i am repeating it. This particular bird is called a sports Roadster with the tonneau cover hiding the backseats. There was only 455 of these particular models produced in 1963. It is a very rare car.

I remember when the '63 T-bird was first introduced; very exciting, such innovative design. A friend's dad had an original new one in black. My dream car for quite some time. This one strays too far from the original with much too much after market stuff. But it still thrills to see so many years later.

My favorite series of "Bird after the first. Loved the clean styling and nicely designed interior on those. The roadster option made the car that much cooler, and even the hardtop models looked great. Those cars seem to last forever too, no sagging door hinges (It's not a GM car!), they were built to last with a style that always looked good.

Notice the rear wheels: There are no center spinners. This is to allow clearance for the optional fender skirts. The front wheels however, have center spinners.

I noticed in one view of the back seat that the spinners were on the floor so he still has the. My parents had a 57 Merc Monterey that had the fender skirts. Eventually they just left them off. I always preferred the look without (same with this T-Bird).

Fender skirts were not on the Sports Roadster. Model number for Sports Roadster is 76b. Lots of 76a convertibles which I suspect this one is. A 63 Sports Roadster only had 450 made.

Cars of this era had real style and attention to detail just look at the artwork of the dashboard no cheap plastic to rattle all metal glove box door most of which started to be replaced in 69 and newer models,along with metal grills,69 Chevy models had plastic grills. Bullet Birds were beautiful, anyone remember seeing them on the TV show 77 Sunset Strip? They always sounded so cool and the same sound was used in The Flintstones, and other Hanna Barbara cartoons,of the sixties.

Don't they cut down on the light beams shining forward? Thx, righteous ride!

My 63 had the FORD oval on the door scuff plate , plus that looks like a after market AC just by the fact that the Factory unit forced the relocation of the power steering fluid tank onto the front wheel well tower area where you see at the 06:32 mark the mounting boss strip minus the pre-drilled bolt holes .

On Sunday (yesterday, 6th October 2019),, at about 2p.m., I saw a red open top Thunderbird come down the last part of the steep, winding hill into St.Margaret's Bay, Kent, England. Two men were in the front seats. The car was absolutely immaculate - it had been raining for quite a while up till 10 minutes previously, but it was bone dry, as were the occupants. The passenger looked vaguely familiar to me - obviously American, with long white straggly hair, droopy white moustache, long white straggly beard. As they slowed right down beside me, I made a thumb and forefinger circle to show how 'ace' I thought the car was, and said 'I thought this was a Daimler Dart at first' - only when I saw 'Thunderbird' emblazoned on the nearside rear fin did I realise my mistake. The passenger, who was very smiley and cheerful, said 'it's a Thunderbird.' I replied 'right - what a beauty.' As the car slowly turned round, I thought they were looking for somewhere to park, so suggested they use 'the pub car park - it's free.' It was right beside them. Someone else near me waved to them, and the car started back up the hill, the passenger waving cheerily. It's only today that I realise who he was - David Crosby

I bought this exact car BRAND NEW...I wish I could remember the price...it was pricey for sure, for those days...but I HAD TO HAVE IT!!! AND I WANT ANOTHER ONE NOW....! I must have missed the history of this car...did YOU do the renovation on this car? Is it for sale now? I do not remember the tonneau cover either....I did not have one...so if you MADE that, you are a genius...and when you raised the little window in the back seat that went through the cover, I DIED LAUGHING! OMG, you have no idea what is going through my head...one more thing....was the original steering wheel just HALF of a steering wheel? Loved the pipes too...won many drag races in New Orleans with that car! hahahahaha
