you done a great job ,i have a 1967 9.5.johnson,the cowel was full of stickers and scratched ,i sanded it down re painted white ,,and orderd custom dark green decals to match the motor its gonna look sweet ,,its my motor its not a restoration but a spruce up to my imagination ..the white cowl with the black decals kinda stuck out so i decided dark green large johnson sea horse decals are gonna look sweet and cool

I was never one for all different radical contrasting colors when repainting an outboard motor always liked the stock colors they never look to gawdy in my opinion.Your feelings are right though you paint it the way you like it not what others like which I understand. Just a note to you & outboard restorers Tractor Supply Company sells a enamel base spray can paint white color that matches the original Johnson Warm White almost perfectly used in earlier years.Its I.D # is IH White 8-22951-8.I believe 1963 Johnsons were a color called French Silver which is different.Just a note nice job all around looks clean and ready to go push a boat again,LOL. @@kodibassInsideoutboards You welcome I forgot to say Majic is the name on the paint can at Tractor Supply manufactured by Yenkin Majestic out of Columbus,Ohio.

Also forgot to mention cant beat the price at $5.99 a can which is great in it self for enamel paint like they used initially. Laquer is no good for outboards not durable at all.I have used Tempo Warm White and other laquer based paints in the past. Using Laquer rattle cans only for the white on my two tone restored outboard covers never again.Enamel only like the factory used for now on sprayed with a HVLP spraygun in a warm environment if possible.No basecoat, clear coat as the ultra wet glossy finish looks cheap in my opinion but Im just old school.....

+GFPALL62 , I have to use what is available locally coast way to much to have it shipped here as there is a hazmat component issue I have to deal with as well. so i just use what is on the shelf. kodi

I snagged me the same one. These are WAY before my time. I have a 9.5 Johnson "pumpkin" body that pulls over really nice....The 10 pulls with 2 hands and a foot on the transom when cold....She fires off but is this how these older motors were? Thanks
@kodibassInsideoutboards5 жыл бұрын
+Mike Theune , Should be about the same as your 9.5, Check your recoil starter, kodi

Those were great engines for sure,, just as smooth as any four stroke! I hope the new owner appreciates this special engine and takes good care of it.

+Mark , Thanks, first I would like to apologize for the dreadful video & camera quality,, I got a new HD camera & the slightest touch everything scrambles, So I will work on that for sure, Yep these little oldies are fun to tear into & put back to use, Parts are still very available , & cheap compared to the newer 4 cycle's , Also at yard sales, swap meets etc, people almost give them away. kodi

I use "edge molding" for the cowl gasket area. It's about 70 cents a foot and does a good job of sealing, and stopping rattles. You can buy it on Amazon. I know shipping is expensive for you but you could buy a bulk amount and not run out of it for a long time.

remember the question on the pool start little plastic ears that get broke off and we couldn't figure out how to do it I figured it out. It's from someone reaching up and either pulling the rope while the motor is running or trying to get the rope to respool weilage the motor is actively running and it kicks the ears out in the flywheel breaks them off

+joanna bruno, Yes It is very good inexpensive paint, One thing is I always use a zinc etching primer prior to the top coat, If you cannot find the zinc primer use Cold Galv primer it is available at any good hardware store, To find the zinc primer you might need to find a good marine / boat supply store, Thanks for watching kodi
@kodibassInsideoutboards7 жыл бұрын
+joanna bruno,, Not much of a scheam, just rattle can paints from the local hardware store , Do it like you like it.. Its not a restoration, Just paint it up the way You"" want it to look on your boat.. & remember paint is to preserve & protect the motor, So find what looks good to you & your boat and go at it! thanks for watching, kodi
@jb411617 жыл бұрын
Great job. Wish I could see the entire paint scheam.

Kodibass If you still have that motor I have all the missing parts you might need.Cover to cowl seal,kill button rubber button,mixture needle valve rubber grommet,carburetor link arms & knobs,recoil plate rubber gasket possibly, from what I can see maybe more. Dont know if your still involved with that aspect of completing this motor from 2016. Im an outboard mechanic & collector in N.Y. Glenn P.
