Wer in den Sechzigern in den Staaten etwas auf dem Kasten hatte, der hat sich den grenzenlosen Luxus eines Lincoln Continental gegönnt. Neben «normalem Luxus» wie bequemen, elektrisch verstellbaren Ledersitzen, Holzapplikationen, Servolenkung und Bremskraftverstärker, findet man in diesem Lincoln auch eine Zentralverriegelung und automatisch abblendendes Fernlicht. Gepaart mit zeitloser Lincoln-Optik, dem 320 PS starken V8, einer sehr schönen Lackierung und den schicken neuen Weisswandreifen bietet dieser Wagen alles, was das Herz begehrt. Ein eleganter Cruiser für die ganze Familie - und auch das Gepäck kommt im riesigen Kofferraum nicht zu kurz.
Modellgeschichte:

Mit dem Modelljahr 1961 gab es keine Schwestermarke namens Continental mehr, die Begriffe Lincoln und Continental durften wieder zusammengehören. Das Fahrzeug, das 1961 als Lincoln Continental auf den Markt kam, hätte eigentlich das 58er-Modell vom Ford Thunderbird sein sollen. Das Design stammte von Elwood Engel. Der Wagen wurde etwas gestreckt und mit zwei zusätzlichen Türen versehen und schon war eines der grossartigsten Automobile aller Zeiten fertig.
Der neue Lincoln Continental von 1961 war ein ganz, ganz grosser Wurf. Das komplette Gegenteil der GM-Absurditäten, mit glatten, grosszügigen Flächen und praktisch chromfrei. 1959 war General Motors mit den grössten, wahnsinnigsten Heckflossen aller Zeiten sehr erfolgreich. Nie waren sie höher als beim Cadillac und nie breiter als beim Chevrolet Impala. Das Design des Continental war daher in jenen Jahren sehr gewagt - und machte ihn zum Erfolg.
Der neue Continental sah einfach phänomenal gut aus. Eines seiner wichtigsten Merkmale waren die so genannten «suicide doors», die hinteren Türen, die hinten angeschlagen waren. Der Wagen war so gut, dass er bis zum Modelljahrgang 1969 quasi unverändert beibehalten wurde. Erstaunlich, wenn man bedenkt, dass GM das Fahrzeugdesign etwa alle zwei Jahre komplett änderte. Bei Lincoln gab es 1962 einen einfacheren Grill, 1963 bessere Sitze vorne und ein paar Verbesserungen im Detail, 1964 einen 7.6 Zentimeter längeren Radstand für mehr Platz hinten, 1965 Scheibenbremsen und Sicherheitsgurten als Standard und 1966 einen grösseren Motor und ein neues Interieur.

Anyone who was anyone in the States in the sixties treated themselves to the boundless luxury of a Lincoln Continental. In addition to "normal luxury" such as comfortable, electrically adjustable leather seats, wood applications, power steering and brake booster, this Lincoln also featured central locking and automatically dimming high beam headlights. Coupled with the timeless Lincoln look, the 320 hp V8, a beautiful paint finish and the chic new whitewall tires, this car offers everything your heart desires. An elegant cruiser for the whole family - and there's no shortage of luggage in the huge trunk.

With the 1961 model year, there was no longer a sister brand called Continental; the terms Lincoln and Continental were once again allowed to belong together. The vehicle that came onto the market in 1961 as the Lincoln Continental should actually have been the '58 model of the Ford Thunderbird. The design came from Elwood Engel. The car was stretched a little and fitted with two additional doors and one of the greatest automobiles of all time was ready.
The new 1961 Lincoln Continental was a great, great success. The complete opposite of the GM absurdities, with smooth, generous surfaces and practically no chrome. In 1959, General Motors was very successful with the biggest, most insane tail fins of all time. They were never higher than on the Cadillac and never wider than on the Chevrolet Impala. The design of the Continental was therefore very daring in those years - and made it a success.
The new Continental simply looked phenomenally good. One of its most important features were the so-called "suicide doors", the rear doors that were hinged at the back. The car was so good that it remained virtually unchanged until the 1969 model year. Amazing, considering that GM changed the vehicle design completely every two years or so. Lincoln saw a simpler grille in 1962, better front seats and a few detail improvements in 1963, a 7.6-inch longer wheelbase for more rear room in 1964, disc brakes and seat belts as standard in 1965, and a larger engine and new interior in 1966.

Beautiful pristine exterior. Interior has a few glitches. Wood laminate is too dark. Inside door handles are installed incorrectly as they should point slightly up not slightly down from the center out. The rear seat looks like original leather but front seat looks cheap like vinyl or undrained leather.

Yes, the exhaust is actually the first and original one.
