Brings back memories, my father had a 61 comet 4d sedan, beautiful cars. Back in 76 when my father owned his the car had low mileage and it was almost flawless, the only flaws it had was the 6 volt electrical system that had a charging issue and for some reason the rear axle dropped causing the driveshaft to rub against the floor causing the rear seat to catch on fire, luckily the car didn't burn down. Great car and great video

Yeah, the rear seat catching on fire is a bit of an issue :) Thanks for taking a look, I appreciate it!

I like the looks of this Comet, especially since it is a rag top. Plenty of motor for the time period, at least where I live. I have only driven one car with a 260 in it, but it was in a Sunbeam Tiger and it had all the power one needed. Solid looking car Jeff, thanks for showing it !

Nice Comet, but I don't remember the S-22 trim package. That was a popular color ,Wimbledon White I believe. Painted a lot of that color back in the day.! Love the interior color too. Looks almost like what we called oxblood ! Thanks Jeff !

The S-22 added custom badging, bucket seats and console, the stainless trim on the sides, and the six taillights (instead of the regular 4) Thanks for taking a look Kevin!

Convertible and hardtop (pillar-less) coupe models were added to the Comet Custom and Comet S-22 lines this year (1963) and the optional 260 cid V8 engine (Borrowed from the Fairlane) using a 2-barrel carburetor and producing 164 hp. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Comet

Hey Jeff! As a kid I thought these little Comets were very classy little cars. My Grandpa had a med Green sedan when I was very young with the Cats Eye Tail Lights.

Glad you like them. I really like the styling of this one too.

My Dad had a '63 Mercury Meteor which I LOVED as a kid - was the Comet a smaller car in the Mercury line?
@RamblinAround3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was similar to a Ford Falcon in these early models. Later, the Comet was Mercury's version of the Ford Maverick.
@garybrinker45223 жыл бұрын
Your dads Mercury would be similar to the 63 Fairlane. I have a 62 Fairlane , and the 62 Meteor is similar to that also.

Baby Mustang's taller, older sis ! Nice, original survivor looking vehicle. I'm a Buick guy, but in a ford of that era, I would prefer a Galaxie Sunliner instead with a 406 interceptor thank you ! - Sandy, the Aging Hot Rodder

Beautiful car. I’m not as familiar with all the Mercury trim levels. Did the S-22 add anything specific or unique over let’s say a regular Comet package?
@RamblinAround3 жыл бұрын
The S-22 option package included special badging on the car's exterior, the hubcaps, on the dash and steering wheel. It also included bucket seats with a center console. Another notable features to the S-22 are the stainless steel trim that runs from front to back on both side of the car, the chrome gills on the quarter panels, and the six rear taillights (three on each side), as opposed to four rear taillights.

I'd just repaint it and drive it it's a clean car doesn't look like no body work is needed
@RamblinAround3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a nice solid car. Just a scuff up and paint and it would be really nice.
