The Wagonaire jingle is sung to the tune of "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe."

I found this video nearly 10 years ago when I was a young kid, early years of KZbin. since then I’ve always wanted one of these cars.

I can't imagine the kind of person who would give this happy commercial about a happy car thumbs down. Scrooge!

The Studebaker Wagonaire. A car ahead of its time. The sliding roof would be on the GMC Envoy XUV (which flopped) and the tailgate step-up would be used in Ford F-Series pickups.

It's not the same but the Chevy avalanche was a small pickup/SUV cross. The pickup bed was not like a station wagon, but you could cover it up with tonneau cover or remove the entire back wall of the passenger cabin and extend the back bed into the passenger compartment. And if I'm not mistaken you can open the tailgate and have an extended bed with a fold out tailgate.

Yes, Brooks Stevens had a hand in designing both the Studebaker Wagonaire, and the Jeep Wagoneer, but I don't think they look anything alike aside from the center grill. There was a little rumble I believe over the name sounding too much alike, but Studebaker was decades ahead with their idea of a sliding roof. GM said they were the first to have a "power sliding roof", little play on words to give the impression they invented it 40 years later.

Rear end is almost identical between the Jeep & Studebaker look it up!& is way closer than horse shoes & hand grenades.& I believe that would be on the 64 model year.

And Chevy thought they had a new idea with the retracting roof... lol.

Raincoats optional from your friendly Studebaker dealer. Those Wagonaires were prone to leaks.

Hudson, Kaiser, Studebaker... All brands that were just as dead by my youth as Pontiac, Oldsmobile Mercury, and Plymouth are to my youngest Nephew.

Omg. Those kids are not restrained in the back of the wagon. Today , kids could ride in the back of a Tesla Model S and are much safer. I guess safety for children was an afterthought.

Except this is much cooler than a boring Tesla. People weren't as stupid driving then.

Randy Gardner Then someone about 50 years from now will think that a Tesla model s was cool and that their cars of their era are boring. Though, i agree that people back then weren't as careless and distracted as now.
@inkey26 жыл бұрын
The concept of restraining people in cars (for the most part) did not even exist back then. It's like faulting a doctor from the past for using leaches and mercury ladened medicines. Probably 60 years from now people will be saying the same thing about cell phones and brain tumors
